I now own 7 hermit crabs, and I keep drawing them.. well- this pose exactly.
Model: Hermes, (my hermit crab)

First time playing with pixel, it's so neat and sharp!
I love how this came out!

For now it's all blues, but I hope I can add color and shading, etc..

Anyone else have hermit crabs?
I totally pimped out their tank the other day as a Christmas present!!

These are the crabs:

From left to right we have: Snickers, Hermes, Stumpy, Twitch, Four, Petit. And the one not shown because my boyfriend just got him the other day is named Skimp.

I LOVE hermit crabs. I used to have a few, but they really do not like the dry climate where I live. :/ Maybe if I ever move to a humid climate again I'll get more.

Also I have a suspicion that my dog ate one after the poor thing somehow escaped. He left his shell, but he disappeared without a trace. D: Checked the entire enclosure/substrate.

My boyfriend got my a great surprise tonight!!

Got my hermit crabs a 20 gallon tank!! Now everything will fit inside lol. I need to get that saltwater dish tomorrow to match, and a new background. :)


So guys, on topic to the art- do you guys think water color for a color would look cool with pixel lines? Or would that just seem messy?

Hermit crabs are so cool, and cute. <3 In an old daycare I went to, there was a tank with a hermit crab in it. He had a bunch of cool shells that were painted, probably by the kids, it was glazed, probably so the chemicals from the paint wouldn't hurt him. Everybody liked him, or her, it. XD

Thats cool to hear jilly! :) Glad it was glazed so it wouldn't do any harm <3 I'm sure they had beautiful shells!


Speaking of beautiful shells, Several weeks ago my boyfriend and I picked out some run down looking shells from the pet store. There was so many, all covered in what seems like plaster, and white and ugly. Today I wondered if they were really made of plaster- if they were there's no way I'm putting in with my crabs. So I washed them, and just with a little water, you could see color. So then I began to scrub away the plaster like material and oh my gosh guys. They are gorgeous!

I'm actually thinking of running a little hermit crab adoption center on here now. So many shells. The designs could be natural or just total unnatural design- because they both appear in real life. right? :) Actually, how cool would it be to just paint hermit shells in real life? It would be hard to find safe paint and a glaze to top coat it so it does no harm to them.
