Kleeare #6 Winter Rescue

Postby paradise, » Thu Dec 10, 2015 4:12 pm

We recently got an urgent call from the local authorities. It seems that they were called in after a recent sighting of a very skinny, odd-looking horse left out in the freezing cold. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a huge Kleeare stable to be abandoned. The Kleeare were simply left, some in the pasture, some trapped in their stalls. And all extremely emaciated. We responded quickly, arriving at the stable and assessing the condition of each Kleeare. The sight shocked us, but we did not fret. We brought each one of the Kleeare back to our place, where they were evaluated by our veterinarian. Some cases were more extreme than others, but all of them had the chance to be saved. That's where you step in...

This kleeare is actually pretty fond towards humans, they are just very shy towards touch.

Task 1 - Meeting the Tall Stranger

I was in a dark metal box, that rattled left and right as it bumped down a cobblestone street. I stamped my cloven hooves again and tried to remember what happened in the past few hours. Being rescued from the horrible farm where I was by the people in white, then coaxed into the metal box. A long drive. Watching one by one, the others unloaded, then placed into separate small square fields, and when it came my turn, I weakly walked down the ramp, skin twitching any time one of them touching me, having not enough strength to fight... Laying down, sleeping...

Waking up with the moon in the sky, stars bright and they herded my yet into another metal box, this time alone. This box had a better footing, which was a good thing considering how bumpy it already was. My nostrils flared, breathing the scent of other kleeare's and something else.. Snow. I nickered with new life and watched the world outside the trailer slowly turn white as the white powdered the ground. The wheels of the trailer (as I later learned that's what it was) crunched over the freshly fallen snow, smoothing the ground out and the rattling ceased.

Out of nowhere, the trailer stopped, and my whole body jerked forward, a whinny escaping my mouth in a puff of steam. My dark ears perked forward to the sound of a door opening and saw a tall figure walk around the trailers side briskly. Being there only being me in the trailer, I was able to turn myself around and face the exit/entrance of the box. Stiff-legged and shivering, the gate slowly lowered and that's when I got my first glance of my new owner. He was a teenager, probably around 16 years of age, but with the height and maturity of a 20 year old. Snorting yet again, I watched in confusion as he stepped back, and I stepped out into a warm barn, and I tottered quickly to the only open stall.

Task 2 - The Small Welcome

I sighed gently, watching the tall stallion make his way into the stall where two buckets of water awaited him. Walking slowly up to the stall I stared in at him. His coat hugged his frame, and you could count every rib clearly. Tears started to fall in anger. How could others do this? A majestic stallion like this should of been cared for properly. The stallion needed a name, but that'd be hard to decide. His coat was dark brown with white scattered at his flanks. Rabicano, it was on his adoption sheet. His luminance spots were not bright, but dull and slightly faded.

Reaching into my pocket, I pulled out a sugar cube, a thing that most kleeare's couldn't resist. Holding it flat in my palm, I held it out to him as a small offering. He took it instantly, his long whiskers tickling my hand making me smile. I made a mental note that he wasn't scared of people but wasn't a fan of being touched after I attempted to touch his forehead and almost lost a few fingers. I smirked and started to think of names that would fit with this stallion. His nostrils flared again and the luminance reminded me a bull... A grin stretched across my face when I finally figured out what to name him.. Kentauros.

Wandering off, I made my way into the feed room to grab his hay net. It was to make sure he wouldn't eat too much food at a time and to put weight on his frail body. Slipping into his stall, I smirked when I noticed him watching me over my shoulder in curiosity, head tilted to the side slightly. Hooking it up to his stall, I backed away to let him investigate what the contraption was. "It's called a hay net Kentauros, it's for you to eat" I murmured, and smiled as he acknowledged my words by nibbling at it hungrily.

Task 5 - What is this Work you Speak of?

A month has passed since I've arrived at this stable, I've filled out nicely, and my coat shines in the light. Migina and I have gotten to be really good friends and sometimes we get into some mischief. My owner, who I've learned a lot from, like how his name is Skylar and he lives with his guy friend in the house, and both of their parents died when they were young. I enjoy the nights he sleeps in the barn with us cause he tells us of his past, and funny stories and I love listening to them, head hanging out of stall, ears pricked high.

When he got me out the pasture today, something was different, and he noticed my anxiousness and quickly soothed me by petting my neck... Ohh... I loved when he scratched me there. Migina stayed in the pasture, an amused look on her face and I began to ponder what he was going to do. After the usual grooming, I watch intently as he pulled out a leather belt for horses that I would later learn was a sir single. It felt weird to have something go around my middle, and the metal in my mouth was cold and metallic flavored. I shook my head, showing my disapproval but he just continued to stroke my neck telling me it was going to be alright.

He lead me to a round, clay paddock where he hooked me up to a very long lead line and told me to walk on. It took a few minutes to understand what he wanted me to do, but after the first thirty minutes, I enjoyed trotting circles over and over again. It was calming and I got lost in the process, my legs moving rhythmically underneath, my coat a shiny sheen of sweat. After the hour passed, I was exhausted, but I looked forward to the days to come where I could work hard in the blazing sun.

Task 6 - The Vet Again?

The doctor came and went, all was clear with him. He was safe, happy, clean, well-groomed and well-fed and he had someone who loved him. I smiled proudly at what I achieved, and knew that I'd be able to rescue another.
