Quest One: Making Introductions

Postby demonthief. » Sun Oct 04, 2015 5:34 pm

Quest One Information
A stable hand walks up to you, waiting
in front of the barn, leading a young
fawn on the end of a lead. The small
Valkrein looks nervous as it prances
behind at a decent pace. "This fawn is
one of our orphans. I thought they
would be perfect for you. But before
you can take them home, why don't
you introduce yourself? Their a little
nervous." The stable hand explains
before handing you the lead. The little
fawn was looking at you expectedly,
curious as to who you were.
Why don't you introduce yourself
to them?

- thank you, she is lovely! -

I had arrived a little later than I had originally planned but was glad that the
stable hand was so understanding and left me to go collect my first Valkrein.
I had been looking at the breed for a long time and on the fence about adopting
one but the idea of fawns left without someone to care for them tilted the
balance. I dug my hands into my pockets and looked around the large barn,
listening to countless sounds of fawns moving around in their stalls. Suddenly
the stable hand spoke up again and I looked up to look at the gorgeous silver
buckskin fawn he was leading. "Hello" I said softly, crouching down so I was at
her eye level and lifted my hand in front of her muzzle, causing her to take a
step back but soon moved forward to sniff it. "You are gorgeous" I whisper as
the stable hand hands me the lead and I give him a nod of thanks. The young
fawn tilted her head but seemed content to follow me as I tugged on the lead
lightly, her small hooves tapping on the concrete floor. "Well since this is
going to be a long relationship so I will have to think of a show name for you
too." The fawn looked up at me as my brown eyes grew thoughtful and took a
step back when I clapped my hands with delight. "I know. Rebel By Demand
will be your show name and your barn name will be Rebel. What do you think?"
I asked and she simply tugged on the rope towards the parking lot.

Rebel trotted happily beside me but stopped once in a while to sniff at the bottom
of a stall door where another Valkrein fawn dwelled. I hoped that the rest of them
would find homes but at the moment, I had to take my little Rebel home. "Come on"
I said softly, gently tugging on the bright red lead. Rebel's bright eyes looked at me
and straightened up, shaking out her coat before following me with a spring in her
step. I led her towards my car and the fawn froze when she came near the back of
the trailer. "It is okay, Rebel. You can take as long as you need" I cooed to her and
opened the trailer door before sitting down on the edge of it. Rebel looked at me and
then to the trailer a few times, leaning forward and sniffing it. When she looked
relaxed I stood up and walked into the trailer, bringing a carrot slice back to Rebel.
Her eyes lit up and it was easy to tempt her into the trailer after a few false starts.
Her thin legs wandered slowly into the trailer and once she was in, I gave her a good
pat on the head and fed her the carrot. I tied the lead to the front of the trailer and
closed the trailer door slowly behind me. "Alright, home we go" I said to myself as I
hopped into the car and started the engine.

The young fawn was in a good mood as her young legs stood on solid ground
and stayed close to my side. "Alright dear, lets take you to your stall" I said
gently and lead her to the stall I had prepared earlier. Before I picked up
my fawn, I well bedded down the stall with straw to make it as comfy as
I could. The large stall was also connected to a medium sized pasture so
I could easily let her out instead of stressing her out to get her to attach
a lead while she was still new. I led her inside the stall and let go of the red
lead. Rebel looked at me before walking around the perimeter of the stall,
her ears back with uncertainly. I held a bottle of milk in my hand and
waited for a moment before crouching down, holding the bottle out. "Here,
come on" I called to her and the fawn quickly trotted towards me, gently
placing her muzzle around the bottle to begin drinking the liquid inside.
Her tail wagged behind her as she continued to guzzle the milk. I giggled
softly and took the empty bottle away, Rebel's eyes almost pleading for
more but I simply giggled again, opening the stall door. She walked up to
the stall door but I quickly closed it and waited until Rebel looked
comfortable again before walking away. I checked on her constantly
throughout the day and when she was comfortable, I opened the door
connected to the pasture. It was good to see the young fawn frolic around
the lush pasture as I continued to complete my chores.

Over the course of a few days, I was really able to see Rebel's
personality. She indeed was a rebel, always finding ways to escape from
her pen and into the paddock connected to her stall. She is a very active
little thing, always racing around and loved to play in the puddles that
formed in her paddock but strangely hated getting anywhere above her
knees covered in mud/dirt, calling and complaining until I cleaned her.
I was worried about her missing companionship, so I brought some of
the horses I owned and put them into the paddock next to her, so she
could see and smell them while still being safe. Rebel seemed to enjoy
the cooler weather but loved it when the sun was high in the sky, her
pink eyes animated as I played with her in the paddock, rolling a
huge ball which she would chase after with much enthusiasm. I leaned
on the fence with a handle full sugar cubes in my pocket and whistled
loudly. Her sweet face turned and ran to the fence, her tail wagging
as I fed her a sugar cube. Rebel had grown from the very fragile looking
fawn, putting on some weight and muscle mass that made her looked
even more grown up. It would be exciting to see what she would look
like as an adult and I couldn't wait to get her some tack that I had been
saving up to get.
