I had this backed up for a while and idk why I never posted it. It's crappy but idk it's something

this is how I draw scales

1) do the sketchy stuff
2) color over the sketchy stuff with the colors
3) it's black now. your dragon is green, you say? well it's black now.
4) on a new layer, just make a bunch of circles. make sure they're slightly darker than the color they will be.
5) apply highlights using the brighter version of the scale's dark colors. shading doesn't matter. highlights do everything.
6) white gleam on the outer edges, majorly in the direction light is coming from.
