My fur stood on edge as I heard the voices. The cocking of the guns they were carrying.
My white eyes scanning over them, I felt the fear but I didn't want it.
I saw them shove a girl forward and she ran into the forest. I smelt her tears.
I felt her pain. Her breathing was heavy and her heart raced in her chest, the feeling burning her throat.
I ran after her, hearing the men take aim at the girl.
I jumped, pushing her down. She cried and hugged me close, my warm fur absorbing her tears.
I pulled the small girl up and I got her to follow me.
I took her to my home and lied down, the child lying against my flank.
I purred softly as her eyes dropped closed. But before she fell into sleep, she hugged me.
"Ehecatl," The girl mumbled and pulled away. I raised my ears, turning my face to look at hers.
My eyes looked into hers, I saw fear and pain, heartbreak and terror.
"it means Wind Serpent... and you look like a dragon...." She finished. I smiled internally and licked her face softly,
