SPECIES INFORMATION:
mika live in large groups, and are rarely found on their own, being very social animals. their main habitat are the treetops of rainforests, either nestled in nests of leaves or burrowed into hollow tree trunks and branches. since they are insectivores, their stubby claws aren't very helpful in the food department, though come in handy when scurrying up trees or across tree limbs. their long, muscular tails are another useful tool for climbing along treetops, as it steadies their small bodies and balances the weight of their giant, satellite-dish like ears that can capture sounds as far as 3 miles away. the tufts of fur at the ends of their tails are used for attracting mates - male mika usually have bigger plumes, though female mika have more colorful ones. they often have intricate and colorful designs on the fur on their backs, matching the tufts at the end of their tails. their long tongues are used for reaching into the valleys of tree bark to gather insects for food. they don't have very good eyesight, and use their amazing sense of hearing to maneuver around. they have thin, wing-like flaps between their front and back legs on each side, which help them glide from tree to tree - this can be very useful, since their stubby legs aren't very good for jumping. they can't glide for very long, and can't glide upwards. they are very small, reaching only a foot and seven inches including the size of their ears which can grow to over half the size of their tiny bodies.
