Okay day 12 (today) lets see, what have i done with Eagle? Well i decided it was time I introduced him to a halter since he has had plenty of time to settle in. Okay all was going well at first, I called him and he came over playfully and sniffed my pockets for carrots, i gently lay the lead rope over his neck and was just about to put on the halter and he jerked up his head, grabbed the halter and galloped off! Flinging the halter in his mouth, prancing in circles and showing off about how smart he was.
Okay i admit is was kinda funny, he was just like a foal again, i can imagine him as a foal, always up to no good! Finally, he dropped the halter and i went to get it, i was about 3 meters away from it when... Eagle comes bolting towards me and with a slight change of course he headed for the halter, picking it up and galloping off to the far side of the yard.
I walked to the fence and leaned against it, looking out at my mares with foals at foot, the chestnut with the bay colt, the dun with the palomino filly, the black with the brown colt. I smiled to my self at the sight of the foals suckling, beautiful just plain beautiful.
Off in my own world i forgot about Eagle, seeing i wasn't playing he came up behind me and dangled the halter over my head and dropping it into my hands, turning around slowly i saw the great gold body standing over me,his breathe warm and gentle, his body looking like pure gold in the afternoon sun, he looked like a stallion I once had, a palomino too named Pure Gold.
I looked the colt in the eye and whistled softly just like the first time i saw him.
I slipped the halter over his head and tied the lead rope to the piece of bailing twine that was on the fence, "good boy, Eagle" i said as i walked away to grab the scissors and soft body-brush.
Returning to the colt, i first showed him the brush and i showed him that it win't hurt him, softly i rubbed him down his neck and followed with thew brush in the other. That went well, now was time for the scissors, this scared him and he jerked away from it so i decided to show him that it wont't hurt him by giving his buddy Yonder a trim too. Returning with Yonder, I tied him on the opposite side of the fence, gently cutting off his mane, Eagle seemed to sense that Yonder wasn't stressed or worried and I started with him.
At first he was a bit scared (i would be too if i was him) but once i started and he realized that it won't hurt him he started to relax. Next was his tail, dodging numerous kicks it managed to give it a trim to get rid off all the mud and tangled hair.
It was 7 pm by the time i was done, i released him and he seemed to dance.
Best day yet!
