The tolter sighed. His breath formed a misty vortex in the night sky. The sound breaking the chilly silence filling the clearing. His grey eyes trailed the light of the moon making them shine. He stood tall and proud in between the grave stones and raised his elegant head towards the stars with his nose scratching at the sky as the mist settled by his knees. The perfect and milky moon rested behind a dull and grassy hill of a peculiar curled shape at the tip. The stallion closed his eyes and inhaled the crisp air and stood there for a few seconds appreciating the perfection of that moment. Where nobody could interrupt him. His eyelids slid open slowly as the light of the full moon dominated his range of sight.
He had escaped the busy hustle and bustle of the town preparing for Halloween, which was tomorrow. It was the most important day and Jack felt overwhelmed by the craziness. He liked to escape and enjoy the silent melodies of the night. Every year he felt that it was losing its meaning. This would not do. He flicked his two tone tail as he proceeded forward towards the curled hill which held many of his memories and where he had experienced the best times of his life as this one right now. Where it was peaceful. The eerie silence was deafening to the stallion who was used to shrieks and screams of the frightened. The black and white stallion carefully picked his was through the grave stones until it was a clear run to the hill but tonight wasn't about rushing, it was about enjoying the peace and quiet for a few hours before preparing for Halloween night tomorrow which he had to prepare a display scarier than the magnificent display that he did last year which left the town stunned and awed.
He snorted remembering the horror on their faces as he revealed his act. He smiled to himself at the fond memory. What a beautiful night that was.
As the horse made his way up the irregular hill he saw the distant flickering lights off the town now below him. He breathed in the cool air and closed his eyes as it revitalised his lungs and the murmurs of the busy town got louder. His eyes flew open and he gave a disgruntled snort and carried his on his way up the hill as the wind whirled around his mane, lifting it from his strong neck and flapping it around. His shadow started to emerge as he got closer to the moon and danced around him. His only real friend. The only one who stuck with him. It swirled about his feet as he lifted his hooves and moved them onto the worn down grass. The sloping ground went flat again and he raised his powerful head and neck as he reached the top. He was merely a shadow on the moon's cold surface as he threw caution to the wind and lifted up onto his rippling hindquarters in a dominant rear letting a powerful neigh rip through his throat to silence to busy town below. Halloween had officially begun.
