Boris ventured deeper into the room, into the dark. It was cold, and his voice echoed whenever he called out. The dark was starting to get irritating, it was just a blank void. At least back at Boris's home there was some excitement.
Eventually, a young man started walking towards Boris. "Hm?" he asked, confused at first. As he drew nearer, something seemed to click. "Oh, hi!" he said. "You must be Boris Volkov."
"Uh... yes." said Boris. "I don't think I caught your name when the guards were telling me about you..."
"Devon." Devon replied.
"Devon who?" Boris inquired.
"Just Devon. But my friends call me Dev."
"You're not who I expected you to be, Devon." Boris said slowly.
"That's what most people say. I guess they don't expect me to be powerful and friendly all at once."
He shifted uncomfortably and smiled. It seemed as though he was thinking about shaking Boris's hand, but like most people, he hesitated. Boris had clawed hands, nobody seemed to want to touch him. Noticing this, he extended his right hand towards Devon, who seemed to forget about his fear entirely and immediately took it. His hand got burnt, and he drew back. Staring at his palm, Devon found that Boris had created a swirled lavender mark on his skin.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" Boris exclaimed. He was about to take Devon's hand to examine it, but thought better of it. "I guess I'm not used to... well, people like you."
Dev scratched the back of his head with his good hand. "Yeah, it's fine. I guess I'll have to get used to that if you're gonna stick with me much longer."
