Name: Thuban, 'Theo'
Reason: One of the stars in the constellation Draco, the dragon, Thuban is also known by the names Alpha Draconis, and Dragon's Tail. Thuban is about 250 times brighter than the sun, however it is also over 300 light years away at the present time, so it's not quite as noticeable as it could otherwise be. It was once the pole star, from 3942 B.C. to 1900 B.C., and during that time spent 200 years within one degree of true north. The Egyptian Pyramids were designed to have an entrance passage facing north, and since Thuban was the pole star at the time, this meant that Thuban would be visible from the pyramids at night. While Theo, his nickname, means 'God's gift'.
Gender: Stallion
Age: 4 years, 6 months
Extra: A dreamer awakes in the dead of the night,
Watching the skies with unbridled delight,
Finding the stars as they fall in the gloom,
Making a wish as hope silently blooms.
Swimming in starshine,
That's where he was,
Not in saltwater sea,
But enveloped by love.
Ebony wouldn't leave him be,
Kind after kin's crisp cruelty,
While impish little stars,
So eagerly light his way.
The moon above so lovely,
With the sweet nothings she says,
The clouds just drifting by,
Rain distorts the sky-
An abstract work of art.
Oh let it rain and let it shine,
Let the world just pass him by,
Leave him to the night's embrace,
To let his dreams just further race,
On and on in the wildest of whimsy.
'Keep your sun and keep your day,'
So the dreamer thus does say;
'That star's overbearing, anyway,
I've got thousands, I've got millions,
Each more lovely than the last,
Some new, others long of past,
But each one willing to share the sky,
A bold statement of unity,
That your sun, so petty,
Could never grasp.'
