Some rules about these guys:
~ They are a special event group of four for the fourth of July; independence day for the United States.
~ Once breeding begins, this group of four may not be bred together.
~ Their special wings may not be passed to offspring; colors will once more be dulled to normal colors particular to the Fen's coat.
~ The brindle may be passed onto the offspring, but less in quantity.

Answer: The 4th of july is not a happy day, its a somber one for him, as it reminds him of his family. Upon seeing the flashing lights and exploding colours in the sky, Rylin is brought back to the memories of how the day he lost his family. More specifically; the day he got spooked and lost never to find his way home or see his family again.
