im going to marry this beeb omg.

thing 1: "silver" typically denotes that a horse/CU has the silver (also called chocolate or taffy) gene, so try to avoid calling something silver if it doesn't carry the silver gene, if possible. If a horse is grey like this, just call it a grey or steel grey and denote in its page that it carries the cream gene that makes it a buckskin. ;) Grey is tricky, but think of it as a cover up. A horse can be any colour underneath the grey, but the grey will always take over.

as a side note, for the purposes of CUs, chimeric does not have a chance to pass down. :) But you didn't know that so no worries. ^-^

thank you cx I have a group chat that discuses horse genetics, and none of us can really concur on grey being a cover, and silver changing the coat at all.
and I didn't know that chim can't pass, so I suppose it's a good thing I didn't roll for chim!

Yeah, chimerism is actually not a real colour - its where two fertilized embryos (fraternal twins) fuse, which is why you get the marbled colourations and why there are actually two different sets of genetics that might pass to the offspring. :3 Its super neat stuff!!

Silver usually changes the mane/tail of a horse with the black gene (does not show on red-based horses) and often times can dapple their coats. Grey always acts to cover up of a horse's original colour.
