Gather around, younglings. Lithe, stop shivering and light yourself a flame. No, I won't do it, you need the practice. Jered, I'm watching everything you do, so don't even think about nipping Sylf's tail. Settle down, and I'll tell you a story. Now, let's see... You've all probably heard about the griffin... What's that, Klease? You want to know how I got these marks? Hmm... you don't know that one. Most don't. Now, before I tell you, you must promise not to tell anyone, not even during the Swap. This is my secret, and mine alone, and I've chosen to reveal it to only you four. Now get comfortable, this will be a long tale. It all started during the great battle...

Gaele waited in her family's cave, bouncing impatiently. Her blue scales glittered in the light from the fire. She paced back and forth, shooting random spurts of flame into the air. When were her parents going to get back? They had been gone for three days straight, on some mission for the Elder Ones. The humans had been increasing activity in the southern quadrant of the Dragonlands, and apparently that wasn't good. The Elder Ones were concerned about a possible invasion. Since the beginning of time, dragons and humans had fought constantly. There was always at least one, sometimes more, big wars between the two each and every century. Humans and dragons just didn't get along. Gaele herself HATED humans as much as the next dragon, perhaps more. Gaele finally stopped pacing and turned toward the entrance to the cave, excited. She could hear wingbeats in the distance, heavy enough to suggest her parents were returning. She rushed eagerly to the entrance, eyes sharp for her parents. Instead flew in a messenger dragon. He nearly collapsed on the floor of the cave, he was so out of breath. "Gaele... You're... Gaele, aren't... you?" He asked, gasping. She nodded silently. "I'm to... escort you to the Elder... Ones." He replied. Confused, she just followed him as he returned to the cave entrance, dove, and after a few flaps, he rose high into the air, Gaele following hurriedly after him.
---
Gaele stood before the Elder Ones, a group of elder dragons that were the leaders of Dragonkind. She was nervous, as she had never been called before them before. The eldest dragon there, a huge male who had long since lost the bright coloration of his scales, addressed her. "Young Gaele. I'm sure you are wondering why it is we have called you here today. I'm afraid the reason is not a very pleasant one. You see, there was a, ah, skirmish during the mission, and your parents were killed. We are all very sorry, and we grieve with you. They were fine dragons." Gaele stared at him in shock. Her parents couldn't be dead, they just couldn't! How could a few miserable humans, so small compared to dragons? Gaele tried to say this, but the words just couldn't come. A female dragon gently lead her out of the room and into a sub-cave that over-looked the forest. The female flew out of the cave and back to the main part of the Elder Ones' cliff. Gaele didn't have the energy to do anything but sleep, and that was what she did.
---
Gaele opened her eyes and blinked. Sunlight was streaming into the cave, and when she looked out, she could see the sun slowly starting to descend behind the mountains. She stood and shook herself tiredly, when it all came rushing back to her. Her parents were dead, killed by humans. Now, instead of just grief, she felt something else. A thirst. A thrist for revenge. Yes, that was what she would do, she would get revenge on the ones that tore her whole world apart. Peering out of the cave entrance to make sure no one would see her, Gaele plunged downward, opening her wings to catch the wind. She knew exactly were she was going. Her father had taken her around the forest many times, saying that knowing her way around may someday come in handy. Unfortunately, never would of thought she would have to use that knowledge for what she was doing. Gaele flew swiftly towards the place where she was certain that the fight had occurred.
---
When she finally got there, she landed down in the center of a clearing and looked around. This HAD to be the place. The ground and trees were charred in some places, and dry blood splattered the ground. Both human and dragon weapons littered the ground, and there were even a few human bodies scattered around, depressingly. Don't they bury their dead? Or do they just leave them where they lay? she thought. As Gaele explored the battleground, she noticed that in some places the blood was still wet, and it seemed as if the bodies were rather fresh, as well. The battle must've just happened! Then it hit her. There could still be humans here! Part of her longed to stay and hunt them down for revenge, the other half was screaming at her to run. As she hesitated, she didn't see the man creeping up behind her. Suddenly, she felt a blinding pain as she was hit over the head. The last thing she saw was a human standing over her, smiling darkly, then everything went black.
