Overview and History
════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

The origin of this particular species is unknown. It is guess that it was the iqena who sparked the mythos of unicorns, pegasus, kirin, and hundreds more that have become legend. Thousands of years of speculation and wonder have led to the constant search of this elusive species.

Iqena are commonly friendly towards any creature of any world. Their peaceful souls only adding to the mystery of their vast variations. Even the youngest of iqena are clueless to their biological origin. Some say that they are born from the mind, much like the goddess Athena.

daw~ Isn't it cute?
It seems to have some bearded dragon characteristics, but maybe it inherited a little more dragon than you'd think, because there appears to be smoke curling from its nose, and it radiates heat. It sometimes coughs up embers, but cannot breath fire.

Edits: slitted eyes - spines - lizard tail - forked tongue
Other: ropes - shackles - smoke

The poor thing, looks like someone tried to tie it up a some point, do you know why?

For this contest, you must tell me why this Iqena looks like something tried to detain it.

Drakon, he's different from the rest, being different isn't always taken lightly and people were scared. They didn't want to admit it, so they did their best to destroy it, because in their minds being different was to be a threat. Even his parents, they gave him up because he wasn't like them, he wasn't like anyone, so it was time to eradicate the problem.

Had he put up more of a fight, maybe he would have never been contained, he felt like it never mattered anyways because no matter how much he struggled he would have lost the battle.

Without much resistance, he was chained to a wall and kept hidden away from the public, experimented on daily. He had lost the will and need to fight, he became an empty shell of the boy he once was and did nothing but eat what little was placed in front of him. It wasn't until he found the truth, that he began to gain his hope back.

The rest of the day he spent breaking the chains, and putting up the facade of a creature who was finally giving up, that had them fooled. When it was time for him to be fed he had put his plan into action. Gathering what little strength he had left, he fought his way out of the cell where he was confined, towards the entrance of the experimentation unit that he was kept prisoner in. Fighting for his freedom and his life, because who knew what could have happened to him if he stayed any longer.

The warm sun beating down on him was a welcomed change from the cell he resided in, finally he was free of the troubles that were thrown at him. For once, he was proud to be different.

Favorite Quote wrote:"Being different isn't a bad thing, it means your brave enough to be yourself."

Out of many quotes, Drakon prefers this one above all else, because it relates to him. It also defies what his whole community thinks, that being different is dangerous, because it's far from being dangerous. To him, being different is a wonderful thing, after he gets past the reminders of his capture. Although it's hard to forget because he still wears the shackles although there is no chain attached.

Favorite Hobby wrote:"I like to write... Stories, Songs, that type of thing."

Drakon finds it a lot easier to write about what he think and feels oppose to saying it, he also has one heck of an imagination which helps when it comes time to write stories because he is actually able to make up a plot line quite quickly to only branch off of. Its something he does to get his mind away from the thoughts of his past and what it would have been like if he stayed, with such a wild imagination some of the things that he can think up that could have happened to him are quite scary.

why does she look like it was tied up?: she got swallowed up by a swamp. reserve

-wondering around dark woods, her daily home, but came upon a swamp she has never set sight before
-walked up to it slowly & carefully
      -sniffed water
-next thing she knew, she was being swallowed by the swamp, like a whirlpool
-was captured by these swamp dwellers underwater for the longest time
-had a "oxygen tank" to breathe out of, as she couldn't breathe..
      -didn't have any energy
-her wings were tied by the ropes
-she was chained down by the strong ropes and shackles
-one day, she was tired of being pushed around and treated the way she was
-built up enough metal strength and broke her way out, especially as her body adapted some, so she became a better swimmer and stronger in the water unlike she used to be

so sorry to me. i fell in love and really connected to one.. good luck to everyone else!! beautiful iqena though c; <33

I was minding my own business in the woods as usual, exploring new areas of growth and encouraging fires to start it the areas that needed it most. I happened across a small village deep within some European montains. It appeared very primitive for this modern age, and piqed my interest. I was greeted very kindly by the residents, who fed me the sweetest of their fruits and the finest of their grains. They offered me a barn to stay the night in, and I had accepted their offer, thinking that nothing was strange.
In my sleepthat night, they chained me like a common monster or demon, restraining my legs and neck with cold iron and bound my wings to the floor withthe thinnestand strongest of their ropes. My bindings were so tight I could barely move from my little corner of the barn. I could lay down and stand up, but not much else.
Those cruel humans keptme hostage for years, feeding me only the minimum amount of food to survive. It seemed that I was imprisoned simply for my dragonish appearance and because of the humans fear of what they didn't know. Years upon years trickled by without my noticing.
It was only on a immensely hot and dry day that I remembered my ability to cough up embers. Some men outside were taliing about recent forst fires, and it was their wordsthat propmted my actions next. A couple of hot coals to my bindings freed me and also happened to set the dry barn on fire. I ran from the village in the confusion that followed, feeling no pity that those inhuman people had lost all of their animals and hay. It served them right for keeping me imprisoned.
Going inactive on here. Find me on DA instead.

Please refrain from asking for my closed species adopts, I still use them outside of their communities.

[Ziel is a dutch name that means 'soul.']

"You know those two-legged hairless mammals, right? Well, some of those march around the forest's looking for exotic species. Others walk around in white jackets observing their surroundings and taking notes on those notepads. One day, a group of those two-legs came to the forest with ropes. I was flying around minding my own business when I heard one of them yell to launch something. Several two-legs came running after me, tossing ropes up at the air. One of those ropes swirled around my wings, pulling me back. When I landed on the ground, those monsters tossed a large net over me so I could not escape. Then they injected something into my hoove which made me fall asleep.. When I woke up, I was in a jail cell with shackles around my ankles so I couldn't escape - At least that's what they thought for the time being. One of those two-legs came into the cell and watched me. I was completely silent. Suddenly, several other soldiers ran in and exclaimed. "One of them is getting away!" The woman that had watching me frowned and got off of her knees and to her feet, shouting out orders. After all the others had scattered, another iqena swooped into my cell and slammed his hooves down on the shackles chains, shattering them. "Just run in the hallway! I nodded and sprinted out into the hall way beside the other iqena. The hall way was completely full. Some soldiers ran around the corner. I huffed out some fog, which engulfed the two-legs and kept them away from us long enough for us to escape. When all the other iqena were outside in front of the building, we ran towards the forest - our home land to warn the other iqena of their presence.

Introduction: All Tied Up

Achilles is an escape artist. No way around it. It's the only thing he truly values,
aside from the handful of friends he has been able to make. It's not uncommon
to see him tying himself up for show, but there's another side to this Iqena.

Achilles is also a wanted convict. Due to his flighty behavior and skittish
tendencies, he has been declared potentially insane, although those who
know him can attest to his sanity. He is a loyal friend, after all. He has
become a scapegoat for the unexplainable, a scapegoat for all the crimes,
murders, invisible things that happen to people.

Whispers in the alley of a theft can trace it's rumorous origins back to
Achilles. No one thinks that it could be anyone else... Many have tried
capturing him for these alleged crimes. After all, who hasn't been
captured for the last few decades? Who has evaded capture time after time?

Oftentimes, Achilles escapes through only dexterity, using his rather
capable and fluid motions to snap the most supple rope. Of course,
that's usually the only thing available to him, although chains fare the
same way. Similar to Houdini's feats, he is also able to manipulate his
joints to escape, if sheer strength isn't enough.

In the following passage, I will recount to you a tale of where the
ropes and shackles came from. A being named Adonia wooed this
male once... but no longer. She betrayed him, turning him over to
the police after she made promises to clear his name. Achilles was
able to escape from the jail, but even as he escaped, he was still
labeled guilty and is on the lam. The bonds that tie him are a
remnant of the only person he trusted with his heart.

296/300

I fell in love with her, if love even truly exists in a world
like ours... I fell, hard and raucously, in a downwards spiral of deceit
and anguish... And I reveled in it. But no matter what I did, tell her
that I was guilty, no matter how much she wanted me to be, for my sake.

I flex my wings in the dark obsidian mirror of the windowpanes and
lightning strikes a tree in the distance, making a small fire. It's night,
and the only light I left on inside my room is the candle on my desk.
Guilty. The ropes in my wings dangle helplessly, trapped between my
feathers and I swing them, the way they catch the wind, the slight
tugging sensation... it feels almost natural. They've become a part
of me, ensnared, hostage as I once was. I can't say I regret loving Adonia,
maybe because of the guiltiness I feel when I think of her.

She was difficult to please, and I aimlessly tried to sate her unpalatable
hunger. Her fervent desire to consume everything was almost intolerable...
but she was beautiful. She was my porcelain goddess, Adonia... it could
have been a sin, the way I whispered her name in the darkness, and still do
to myself, whenever I feel safe. The way she drew me in was exotic, her
scent was like a foreign perfume and her presence was bewitching to behold.

She promised to protect me from the police's bad habits. Of blaming me
for the things that we all knew I didn't do. Of course, I couldn't confess,
and I guess Adonia had good intentions, but it was painful and scarring.
The ropes never came out of my wings, and the shackles couldn't be broken
after they were cast around my ankles. I'm not surprised she turned on me,
either. I thought we were working to clear my name, but when she smiled
maliciously and the jail cell shut, I know she felt nothing. I was guilty.

Days later, the guards stopped watching me as closely as they had been.
Often, I would be alone for hours on end, and soon, they only showed up
to give me my daily meals and to twirl their keys in my face. I started
snapping the ropes they had me confined with one by one and eventually,
I had separated myself from the wall. The shackles were heavy and it was
difficult to lift my hooves, but I gathered my remaining strength and saved it
for my final escape. The guards never noticed I was free from the ropes, as
a few still dangled from my body.

I twisted between the bars, contorting my joints to fit through and I was free
once more. I bolted from the open door, the guards asleep outside. I ran
until my chest burned and ducked into an alleyway before anyone could see.
They would never know, and that was the end of things. That was the end.

why does he/she look like it was tied up?:
This Iqena wondered around the mountains above a great and powerful town, it often gave off smoke which stuck to the air in dark clouds. One day, a man was curious about the foul clouds and went out on a journey to the top of the great peaks of the Smaug Mountains, he traveled for days. He only stopped to drink, eat, or sleep. Once he became closer to the peak of the highest mountain, he caught glimpse of something slick and scaly, fearing a dragon, he threw out his ropes and managed to tangle the beast’s wings. The Iqena let out a loud and rumbling sound, one of such power that the Earth seemed to shake under the man's feet.
Pulling on the ropes, the man pinned the iqena to the ground, only to see that it was not a dragon, but a powerful scaly being, one he had never seen before. He stared into the beasts eyes and became entranced by it, greed and wicked deeds overcame the man and he dragged the scaly being down from the mountains and into the town. There he chained it up in shackles and showed it off in display for all to see. Years and years passed and the beast was named Finem, to represent the end of the smaug on the mountains.Onnce the man died, the iqena escaped. It broke its chains and spread its wings far, the ropes still entwined in the feathers of the beast as it flew beyond the Smaug Mountains.
