- WIP ref for a new character ;w;
Name: Faux
Gender: Male
Background:
- As a colt, Faux learned how important having and using wings were to his people.
Their village was set on a steep rocky slope, with little to no purchase for hooves and almost all food was located at the bottom of the mountain or in the trees father above. However, it became apparent in his early years that his wings that would be deathly important to him were stunted to the size they were at birth. Despite this crippling effect it had on his position in their society, Faux's parents gave him the last gift they would ever give him - prosthetic wings.
Winter came early that year, and along with it the end of Faux's life there.
He was cast from the mountain, caught up in the seasonally snow storm with no option but to trek down the near cliffs with half hearted wing beats, crashing more times than spent in the air.
At the base of the mountain, he was greeted with fatigue and cold, resting himself another half mile into the wilderness that surrounded their mountain.
He awoke to a bitter cold morning, an ache in his chest and the feeling of a soft blanket over his shoulders. His prosthetics had been removed as well, set beside two mares in strange clothing. One seemed to be hiding her wings, which were tucked neatly against her back and covered by multiple strings of bells that were as gold as wheat, and a signal tall horn rested proudly from her curly pieces of mane. The other far smaller mare had no other interesting characteristics aside from her unruly blue mane, darker brown freckles, and a strange feather mark on her rump.
His own cutey mark rested on his rump, an eye printed upon it. His mother told him to be proud - an eye symbolized deep insight. He would live a long life, they told him - not that he believed them, but he took comfort in their words anyways.
The two took notice to his gaze and explained themselves. They offered him food, water, and soothed his aches and pains.
"Say kid," The alicorn - Gypsy was her name - approached him, settling on her rump with a kind smile. "Wanna learn how to fly? I'm sure you could learn pretty easily, and those little wings need to bulk up before they can take on headwinds. What do ya say? You can travel with me and BlueJay in the mean time."
They didn't have to ask him twice.
--
Faux was given new life with the two mares as they traveled all around the country meeting all sorts of people - though he didn't approve of Gypsy's habbit of stealing from them wheneve rshe could with her strange songs. He flourished during the spring, and by summer he had his finally test for his prosthetics - the sky.
"Take it easy up there kid,"Gypsy warned "I'll be with you most of the way, but you've gotta do this on your own."
Faux agreed. This was his body to conquer and leaning on Gypsy the whole time would put all their hard work to shame.
A tall hill stretched over a crystal clear pond, a safe place to land compared to the rocks on either side of it.
The last strap was clasped and tightened, Gypsy giving Faux a reassuring nod.
"Whenever you're ready."
He braced himself and took a few steps back as he opened his wings, the flutter the soft and light weight fabric along with the faint click of metal greeting him pleasantly. A deep breath gave him the timing he needed and he surged forward with a powerful lunge of his back legs. The sound of air slicing past him gave Faux a rush as he finally lept off the crest of the hill.
And fell.
It was in slow motion. His wings weren't opening fast enough, and already the harness bit into his chest. A split second decision to tilt his wings sideways saved his fall, wings snapping open and catching a gust of wind. Faux bit back a pained cry as he was propelled upward, higher than he wanted. In that moment, Gypsy was there, all smiles and sharp rings of crystal sound from her bells.
"You did it kid, congrats on your first successful flight!"
His vision was bluing as warm tears stained his coat "Gypsy I- Thank you. I don't know what I would have done without your help. I'm just... So grateful..."

The rest of the year came and went, along with the seasons. The three travel together, every now and than stopping at near by towns for food and shelter, but their home was where ever they wanted to explore. There was many secrets to be found, and no one on this party was satisfied with finding just one of them.
They have to find them all.
