Bacintus color test

Postby qwertyo » Fri Dec 19, 2014 8:43 pm

Testing out some colors for my species, the bacintus.

I'm planning on having these be an open species, however there will be guidelines for them. Right now I'm trying to figure out what colors/markings are allowed. Here's what I got so far in terms of accepted colors and markings:

• Since this species is based on cats, any cat colors/marks are fine (this is a good cat guide). And same thing with rodents too. Any rodent (mice/rats/gerbils/etc.) marks can work.
• All bacintuses must have a solid colored tail, though gradients are okay as long as it's only two colors. There are no markings (stripes/spots/etc.) on the tail.
• For eye colors: Blue, green, yellow, orange, brown, and maybe red? Also their eyes come in two colors, a light color and then a dark ring and a black pupil. (here's what their eyes are like) I usually draw them without pupils, unless I'm going for realism.
• Unaccepted marking colors: Any greens, any highly saturated color (I'm talking about colors like or ).
• For markings, in addition to the cat/rodents marks, my rule is that as long as a real animal has the marking, then it's alright. The design should look fairly natural overall though.
• Unaccepted markings: Any very unnatural shapes and designs, like swirls, hearts, and thunderbolts (though it's okay if it's vaguely shaped like something, like say a blotchy heart mark. I'm saying perfect hearts/etc. aren't accepted). Also, markings that resemble a copyrighted character. It's okay if they're inspired by a character, however I don't want to see a bacintus that is basically "X character, but as a bacintus".
• No limits on how many you can make, design as many as you like!

Aannd that's what I got so far. I think I may be pretty solid, now that I read this over. Actually, if anyone wants to try designing a bacintus based on what I wrote above, then give it a shot! Please post here if you do, I really want to know if this guideline is enough for someone to make one of these, because I'm too lazy to draw a giant guide for these things.

Edit:
*just wanna note that all these bacintuses are all owned now!

Gosh, these guys are really neat! I love the colored ring style with their eyes. Blue-and-red is a cutie, too.

If I have time I'll try to throw some design doodles together soon. I just have a lot of housework to do first!
"Over the years, he always maintained it was a love letter.
He should know. He wrote a lot of them, and never got any back.

"I don’t have a copy any more. He and I burned the transcript to keep from getting caught with it.
He didn’t need one anyway. Nor did I. Palamedes remembers everything: That was his problem.

"I always remember him. That’s mine."

Actually, I'm considering putting these up for adoption. I have no intention of keeping these designs except for the blue one. The blue one is the mascot for this species.

Cute! you got the anatomy correct too, I don't think you messed up at all. I love seeing this species in other people's styles. can't wait to see how you color it.

Thanks! The colored ring things was accidental, but I ended up loving it. I'd love to see what designs you come up with!

I've already commented there, but I really do like your drawing. I just love it when people draw my species :D
