Stormy giggled, and chased the bluejay farther into the forest. It flitted into a tree and she sprang after it, flapping her wings wildly. Reaching the bluejay, she reached a paw towards it. It let out a caterwaul and swooped down onto the frozen river. Stormy chased it, thinking the ice was sturdy. She galloped to the bird, and the ice cracked. The bird screeched and flitted off. There was nowhere to run. She shrank to the ice and whimpered. The ice cracked again, blocking the way out now, and she plummeted into the freezing water. She tried to surface, but all around her was ice. Her fluffy blue-grey fur weighed her down. Suddenly light shimmered around her and circled her. It pressed against her and branded into her fur. The unknown force pulled her out of the water and she gasped for air. She turned, shivering, to lick her wet fur when she saw the glimmering icy stripes from the unknown force that pulled her life back. She smiled, suddenly embracing the coldness. She tilted her muzzle towards the water to take a drink when a bubble of water burst up and floated to her. She was puzzled. She put a paw in the water and felt dry ground. She looked down and saw that she had made a small dry circle in the water. She giggled, amazed. She made more bubbles and ate them, relishing the feeling of them popping and water bursting inside her mouth. She frolicked through the water, never getting wet. She made the water burst into a geyser, the crystally blue water catching in the sunlight. She smiled to herself. I can control water. I never get wet. I never get cold. I am rare... but best of all, I'm me.
