Answer: Named after the wave like markings that flow along her chest and forelegs, Dune's markings bear striking resemblance to the creases that are found in
desert landscapes. However, there is a second reason behind her name.
The heat of the season of her birth inspired her title as well.
Dune was born during a heatwave, her white pelt deflecting light and allowing her to cope better with the heat than any of the other fawns which had been birthed during the same season as she. Having developed under the hot summer sun, she'd grown fond of it and had known little else up until the sun started to fade. A brutal winter followed a steady fall, and Dune was not mentally equipped for the weather, and as a result, struggled through it. She longed for the summer which felt synonymous to everything pleasant she had ever experienced, and learned to hate the colder seasons where she struggled to find food and shelter.
