The world has ended. Humanity is struggling for survival. Wars over resources have begun to break out. One of the few remaining cooperative human settlements--Bastion--is plagued by hunger and disease. The land can no longer support them. Bastion's last hope is the prophesied 'feathered child', who will either save Bastion or die trying.

Let me explain what's going on here;
In Bastion, children are simply called 'child' until they are about 6. At that time, they're sent out into the world by themselves to find any single item. They bring it back to Mr Scar-Face here, and he gives 'em a name based on what they found. And it's like this huge ceremony and only he and the child can go and there's a ceremonial fire 'n stuff.
