Prologue:
It all began when, Lyall was a kit. His mother, and all the members of his clan, were looking forward to seeing what color, this black tom's eyes were. They were sure that his eyes would blue, since his mother: Rosewind's eyes were blue. Then when he was two moons old, his eyes opened for the first time, and they were yellow as wolf eyes, glowing in the dark of night. A queen who was also nursing her kits, yowled in horror. Bringing the queen, a vision of a wolf staring at her, from the deepest part of the forest. And because it was after nightfall in the vision, the wolf's eyes glowed bright in the dark. Lyall looked at the queen in confusion, why was she yowling in horror? Was there something wrong with his eyes? Or was something else wrong?
Chapter one: page one
"Mom, why is she yowling in horror, is there something wrong my eyes?" Lyall innocently asked his mother. "No, sweetie." She rubbed up against him lovingly. "There is completely nothing wrong with your eyes, it's just that they are different, and uniquely colored." His mother, Rosewind said. But there was, and the medicine cat believed, that it was a sign of a bad things to come. The medicine cat convinced the leader, that Lyall's yellow eyes was a sign of him, maybe of him growing up to, be a killer in the near future. Because of that, Rosewind lost the ability to name him, whatever name that she wished to name him. Even though as she did wished to do so. She desperately wanted to named her only surviving kit, since she had lost the others to a bout of greencough. He was her pride and joy because of this, he was everything to her. And it broke her heart to not able to name him herself. The leader had took the one thing she had: her ability to name her sole surviving kit, and she wasn't going let him get away with it that easily. She vowed to get her ability to name him back, no matter the cost. Even if it cost her: her life to do so. She had no idea that Gladeclan's world would be turned up side down, that everything that they that thought they knew would be turned onto it's head, and that nothing would ever be the same..
Chapter one: page two
The next day, a naming ceremony happened that very morning. The leader stood over Lyall for what seemed like sky-lengths, above him on the high ledge. "Everyone please gather for the naming ceremony!" The leader yowled from the high ledge. And all of the clan started to gather around the high ledge. Lyall's mother, Rosewind sat down next to him, looking a little sad, that she couldn't have named her own kit. But yet at the same time, she looked like she was, going to burst at the seams with pride, that he was going to be named by the leader, himself. "I will name Rosewind's only surviving kit today." The leader paused. "I have picked a name for him, and I hope that Starclan approves my choice." The leader went silent as he quietly said, the name in his head. I have chosen Darkkit for his name. I hope that you approve my choice, Starclan. The leader leaped down from the high ledge. "From now on, your name will be Darkkit, young one." The leader bent down and licked Lyall's shoulder. "and Gladeclan welcomes you to the clan as a full member." The leader said, looking down at Lyall. "Darkkit, Darkkit, Darkkit." The clan all said as one, chanting his new name until it rang in his ears.
Chapter one: page three
Darkkit, the name echoed in his mind. How could the leader do this to him? He wasn't dark at all. In fact it was a completely opposite of his nature. There wasn't a dark and twisted bone in Lyall's body. The name Darkkit reminded Lyall of everything that he isn't. It brought to mind of the stories his mom told him, about the savage rouges that lived in the forest, near by the clan. He was nothing like them! He vowed to not let his new name, hold him back from his true destiny. The one that the leader, and even the medicine cat couldn't see coming. The destiny that truly belonged to him. He could feel it calling him in his bones. Starclan knew that he wasn't destined to kill, he was truly destined to protect. He could feel it talking to him in the breeze, like a soft whispering in his ears. Starclan was telling him, that he was destined for great things. And no one could tell him otherwise. The sunset over the horizon, outside the nursery den. As Darkkit went to sleep, as he curled up to next his mother, in the nursery den. He just couldn't shake this feeling, that something bad was going to happen, something very bad.
Chapter one: page four
He closed his eyes, and he saw wildfire burning everywhere. It was in the camp clearing, in the dens, and it was blocking the ivy tunnel, which was the only way out of the clan camp. And worst of it all, it felt like his fur was on fire. "Where is everyone?!" He yowled in confusion and fear. "Darkkit!" He heard his mother cry. "Mom?! Where are you?!" He cried out in fear. "I'm over here!" His mother replied with desperation in her voice. "I'm coming, mom!" He replied as he ran toward the sound of her voice. As he stopped running, he could smell his mother's sweet scent was mixed, and tangled with the scent of blood. He saw her laying on the ground with a huge gash in her side, there was also a tree limb on top of her, trapping her as she laid on the ground. "Mom, you are wounded! What happened?!" Darkkit said in shock. "The deputy led some rouges to camp, and I saw him do it..." Rosewind said faintly. "Do what, mom?" He asked desperately. "I saw the deputy kill a cat.." She said looking, as if she would pass out any minute. "Which cat did the deputy kill, mom?" He asked worriedly. "The leader's best friend..." She said gasping. "Mom?!" Darkkit said fearfully. "What's wrong?!" He asked with desperation in his voice. "She is badly wounded, young one." A voice said. Darkkit whipped his head around. "Who's there?!" He said in a low and threatening tone. "No one that you should fear, Darkkit." The voice said. "How do you know my name?" He said with a slight growl, rumbling in his throat. "How do I know your name? Because I am a Starclan ancestor." A beautiful she-cat said as she walked out, from behind the cover of the mist.
Chapter two: page one
"Who are you?" Darkkit repeated. "I am Astralheart, and I am a member of Starclan." Astralheart said, her pelt shimmering and twinkling with stars. "Whoa, a member of Starclan? But how do you know my mom is badly wounded?" Darkkit asked awestruck. "Because I was a medicine cat when I was alive." Astralheart said fondly as if, she was remembering her past life. "Can you help my mom?" He said with worry. "Of course, I can." Astralheart said. "How?" Darkkit asked. "I'll need your help getting some herbs.." Astralheart said drifting off into deep thought, trying to recall the herbs that she would, need in order to heal Darkkit's mother. "Which herbs?" Darkkit asked curiously. "I'll need some Alder, Marigold, and Yarrow. They will help aid your mother in healing herself." Astralheart said. "Okay, what do those herbs smell like?" Darkkit said with his tail swishing back and forth. "Hmm, I'll show you where some Alder, Marigold, and Yarrow is growing." Astralheart said. "But the ivy tunnel is still blocked! How will we get out into the forest to find those herbs?" He said with impatience, his tail now kicking up dust as it swished faster back and forth. "I know a short cut." Astralheart said with a smile. "A short cut? Are you sure?" Darkkit said tilting his head in confusion. "I'm sure. This way!" She said and bounded across the clearing, over to some bushes. "Hey! Wait for me!" He yowled as he ran after her. He caught up to her and then he panted for a few minutes. "Is this the shortcut? I don't see anything." He said tilting his head again in confusion. "There is more to everything in this world, then what meets the eye, young one." She said with wisdom, and parted the bushes to reveal a secret path. "Whoa.." He said in awe, for the discovery had rendered him speechless. "Come on, we'll need to hurry, if we are to save your mother in time." She said WIP.
