She is a female rabbit who has been badly burned in a chemical exposure for an experiment on how her body would react.
The scientists didn't know how bad it would scar and hurt her. After a few seconds of exposure half of her fur singed off and she became blind. To keep her body functioning, other means of unnatural additions were made.
