A lot of fairytales end tragically- or, if they end happily, typically have some kind violent happening beforehand. (Examples: Little Claus kills big Claus, The traveling companion beheads the troll, Rapunzel's boyfriend gets blinded by his eyes being injured...) Fairytales are awfully bittersweet.
