I don't draw cats. Why? This is why.

I made a new cat character, because I have very, very few, and took a chance and decided to draw her. Not a good idea. I've just about figured her out, so now I just have to learn how to draw.

*Larger than a domestic cat, smaller than a several
*Female
*Anchor for a tail
*Large, curved ears
*Always wears a sailor's hat
*Spotted coat
*Cries saltwater
*Is sometimes seen with hair. When she does have hair, it is long and red, with a salty smell
*Has a failed reference Has a mermaid figurehead on chest
*Call her anything, she was never given a name, although she has half-taken up the name Umi.

I'll probably finish this off at some point. Then you can all see how rubbish I really am at drawing cats.

I think the only problem is that her face is a bit too long (unless that's just her breed)
The rest of the anatomy looks pretty ok

@Myanai: Thanks. Right up to the word 'and'. From that point onwards, I either want to slap you or hug you. I've not decided yet.

@KuruKuru D: Yeah. I don't understand cat anatomy at all, and I'm particularly stuck on the head. I'm still playing around with it, though.

But but, it's true D:! It's a sketch, so it's in the general idea laying out the plans to get it up to definitive lines stage :3. I know my sketches go through a multitude of stages before I settle <<. Going down into the nittygritty of things though, kitty has demon pointy ears, I don't know if it's on purpose but if you want to go for more natural ears just tapper the top (it'll also slightly shrink them, they're a bit on the big side atm), and the shoulderblade is too forward. Also, remember cats use less paw to stand on as opposed to canines, so the fore paw has an angle sticking out backwards that doesn't exist (if that makes sense >.<). As for the headshot, cats' nosebridge is shorter than dogs', even on cats with a longer muzzle. The unfinished red line that's closer to the eyes is actually closer to reality, although it's a bit too short, so it's somewhere in the middle, closer to the red. I'm terrible at putting this stuff into words, I draw when I want to describe things usually xD...

I know exactly what you mean. I think most of it is because she's crossed with a several and because I suck at faces.

Well, imagine if you took a frying pan and gave her a light tap xD. It's an annoying balance between feline and canine facial features x.o.
