woof redline

i guess this is sort of self-explanatory...
i don't know wolf anatomy so i dunno how to explain it

i hope it helps but i can't explain it well, as i'm very lacking in knowledge of "wolf"-ish anatomy - i'm much better with horses!

    the ears
wolf ears are pretty stubby, for dog ears, and if you compare them to dogs like german shepherds it becomes really clear that wolves in general have rather stubby, "round" ears which are also very fluffy within the inner ear! if you think about it, they are a bit like a fat triangle that rounds out near the top.

    the nose, muzzle, and forehead
wolves generally have large noses, and short, fat muzzles, and if you look at pictures of wolves they often are "short"-muzzled, but with large noses and this is especially common in grey/gray wolves c:

now, the forehead is a little harder to explain... it's kind of sloped, and there is a visible forehead, but it is much like a very "shallow" hill and is very much like a really gentle slope, from the side, anyway - from the front, it looks a little more squashed down depending at the angle you are looking at the wolf from

    the fur
the fur generally goes down, the direction of the fur being towards the wolf's back-end, and this is especially visible on the neck, although from the side the fur may look "scattered" and not in any sort of direction, but when drawing the wolf's body it is much better to draw the fur "marks" facing either down or towards the wolf's back end!

    the muscle
now, much like with horses and such, the wolf also has a few visible muscles. these seem to be a little lacking in number, but it depends on the wolf's coat thickness, as well as health! usually, the shoulder or elbow muscles are visible, and there will also be some smaller, less-visible-but-still-visible ones on the face, such as cheekbones or bones down its legs. if you are unsure, either don't draw them or reference an image and try to guess - it is much easier to draw very very faint lines, so that it is obvious there are muscles visible whilst being so faint that it may be hard to criticise where they are!

    the paws
the paws are one of the hardest things, especially at angles like the two in the picture - i have had a very big problem getting my head around angled wolf paws since i first started drawing them! from the side, they slope down as well except for small bumps you may see, indicating either the bone or claws, a little like a cat's foot - from the front, the paws look squished together, and are actually much like a triangle and can be at first mapped out as either a triangle, square, or both when you first sketch the wolf, and smaller boxes for the toes - this helps a lot when positioning the actual paw in complicated poses like the third one!

    the eyes
contrary to how many people draw wolf eyes on this site, they are not "slit"-shaped or square/very round - they are more like a leaf or a squashed egg, and looking at photos of wolves shows this very well, as they have a particular shape, rather than one of the more "anime"-shaped eyes that people perceive most wolves to have (i have no idea why!) and it is a lot easier to not follow the trend, and instead to look at photographs and images of wolves, or even realistic drawings or guides, as they can be very helpful.
