Sunset- short story

Postby LeSmexyFish » Wed Apr 23, 2014 2:35 pm

We lay together in the scarlet light of the setting sun, watching the rays slowly disappear as the moon creeps up the other edge of the sky.

“You know,” He started, his golden brown fur gleaming, catching the sunlight like a web. “You are the first person to actually learn about me. My father, as I have told you, was a cruel, merciless leader until his citizens threw him out of power. Nobody spoke to me because of my bloodlines, because they feared that I would take their support and go into power to be just as harsh as my dad.” His green gaze gleamed at me through white feathery patches of fur on his face. “Everyone saw through me, but you.”

I sighed. ‘Twas not a happy, relieved sigh, though an angry, flustered sigh. I had a destiny to save the world; this handsome, kind young wolf did not. “I was born of a prophecy, telling of the gods’ sacrifices, each forsaking their power into one wolf. One great ball of the power, responsibility, and risks of all the Heavenly Empire of Mir, lodged into the soul of a single being. This wolf would have the Eight Forces of a Pure Soul etched in a color unknown into their fur. Of those eight, I know only four; Peace, Love, Luck, and Generosity. Once attaining knowledge of each, I will be sent to the Temple of Mbinguni to battle the seven deadly sins, saving the most powerful, Greed, until last, to defeat this demon using to two most powerful Forces, those of which I may or may not have yet to learn.” I looked into his eyes. “Listen. You are very kind to show me such kindness and selflessness, but I must go. My fate lies within the paws of time. Your fate lies within this meadow. We must go our separate ways, and soon, for if we bond we will be unable to part.” He stood tall, gazing down at me with those green eyes. Silence fell. We were silent. Many heartbreaking moments passed as it dawned on both of us that we would not see each other for milele. I saw the sad realization in his emeralds for eyes. I got lost in them, wishing that this moment could last longer than it did. I finally wrenched my gaze from his. “Gomei. Sala kahle.”

“Say farewell tomorrow.” He said. “Apologize tomorrow. Save the tears for tomorrow.” He licked my scruff gently. “Let us have a final night.”

I nodded. The Ikpeazụ zutere. I thought, resting my head on the grass. He lay beside me, flicking his white tail-tip over my gray-and-turquoise one.

“Who are you, anyway?” He whispered, so quiet that I could barely make out what he was saying.

“Let’s just say that I am a wolf who wishes to be normal and to have normal comrades, but is never to have her wish granted.”
He nodded, resting his head on mine.

“Laku noc.”
