Page Twenty-Nine:
[[YOU ARE IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF: Ellie]]
Everone swivels to face Sam, dragging their gazes off me. I sigh with relief, glad to not be the center of attention. I'm also not sure how to take what Muna had said. 'all I want to know is why Sam chose her!' Muna's words ring in my head, pulling me out of reality and back into my thoughts.
What had she meant, I question my knowledge, wondering if I should verbally ask. deciding its best not to, I keep my curiosity confided to my thoughts. But then I wonder, can they read my mind? Hear it? Interpret it?
The questions spark another recollection, The officers... I think with dread, my subconscious spewing out memories of the past night--was it the past night? How long ago had Clea seeped into my thoughts again, robbing me of my privacy? a shiver crawls over my skin, and my stomach churns in a knot; threatening bring me to my knees, doubled over in pain.
But I force myself to shake it off and focus back on the quarreling others.
"She makes a good point, why did you choose her?" Seth pops in, his voice monotone besides a hint of annoyance.
"Course its a good point!" Muna exclaims, sticking her chin up in the air, "Aren't all my points useful?"
I frown from where I stand, "Bit full of it, eh?" I offer, then add, "And don't you think I should drop in what I know?"
"I don't really 'think' you need to say anything. your in no position to criticize." Seth mocks, making the heat of anger rise to my face.
"Relax, relax, I might as well explain," Sam junctures, waving off their dismay and concern. He then recomposes himself into a more serious posture, straightening his back and setting his shoulders. "You see, while the others who we considered did in fact qualify and me the standards--none of them chose to hide their powers as Ellie has. Also, when I checked on her at the library a few weeks ago--our first meeting--and were caught, the officers were all over her. she HAS to be valuable. She also knows what the officers look like, yes?" Sam shifts his gaze around the group, a prideful smile on his face, then it settles on me. I tense up, biting my lip.
