Species Information ;
- Body and Fur ;
At first glance Terretell are lean built canine looking creatures with large ears and a long lion like tail. But after years of research studies have shown that there is much more then that about them. The first thing that scientists noticed is that Terretell are neither canine or feline, but are in fact a member of their own species. Their lean and light body structure makes them excellent travelers, allowing them to go for miles before needing to slow down. These lean bodies do well in the environment of their home world, Delta Velorum V. Male tend to be both larger and more muscular then females, and are much stronger. Males however are slower then female, and even though in a fight a male can overpower a female easily, females can outrun a male without even trying. Both male and females are very agile and flexible, able to squeeze through small spaces and climb steep inclines with ease. Terretell have retractable claws and 1 unretractable dew claw on each front leg, mainly used in defense and climbing/grasping things.
Terretell's fur is short, light, and soft. It can come in a wide variety of colors and patterns - always being natural colors (browns, white, greys, blacks, tans, ect). A Terretell never has unnatural colored fur (such as purple, pink, green, ect). Patterns can be almost anything, but the most commonly seen patterns are in fact patterns seen on earth horses and cats. Stripes and brindle patterns are uncommon but not unheard of, and individuals with striped patterns are sometimes revered and considered to be destined as clan leaders. Clan leaders are commonly seen with striped coats, due to decades of selective breeding. If a clan leader is stripe-less he often times will dye his pelt with paint made out of local plants.
Blues, pinks, and reds are sometimes seen, but are never considered as 'true' unnatural colors but are in fact a roan color similar to horses on earth. For example with a blue Terretell, this happens when the pelt has a mix black, grey, and white hues in it - giving it a sort of blue appearance.
Eyes and Ears ;
Terretell can come in any color of eyes, both natural and unnatural - and often times has more then one color in it. Some will have what is known as "reverse eyes" where the iris is extremely dark in color while the pupil is very light. Terretell with reverse eyes tend to have vision problems, light sensitivity, and some even blindness.
Terretell have very large ears that come in four different varieties. The varieties are normal (shown in picture), tuffed, large, and the newest variety seen - lop. All ear types, minus lop, are almost back and can move very little. Due to their size they can only move to the side or down by only a couple inches. The ears can never move upright. Lop ears are a little more flexible but still always hang downward. Lop ears also are more pron to ear infections compared to the other varieties. Terretell have very good hearing, and use their ears as radar dishes. The size of their ears helps expel heat in hot weather (since Terretell don't sweat) but unfortunately this does the same in cold weather.
Tail ;
The Terretell's tail is long and extremely flexible. All Terretell tails are the same, there are no varieties like the ears. Tails length can vary with each individual but it will always remain long. The tail is in fact, prehensile! Meaning that they can easily wrap it around and grasp object with it, much like a spare hand. Their tails are quite strong, and can easily pick up smaller object and even kits with it.
Diet ;
Terretell are omnivores, meaning that they eat both meat and plant matter. Each Terretell have their own tastes, some prefer to have a diet consisting mostly of meat while others try to keep it completely meat free. It all depends on the individual. A Terretell can eat just about anything, thanks to their strong stomach acid. Their strong stomachs allows to them digest anything from grass to bone shards. They rely on their since of smell when it comes to food, if something has a unappetizing smelling or bitterness, they won't eat it because most things with those smells are poison to them. If a Terretell looses his or her since of smell, death is closely near because they can not identify what is bad or good, even with memorizing poisonous plants.
Accessories ;
Most Terretell do enjoy and wear accessories. They will have 1-2 accessories they will wear everywhere they go, but never more then that. These accessories, or "tokens" as they call it are near and dear to their heart and never to be parted with unless they choose to give it to their offspring or mate. Accessories can either be found, made, or inherited from their family. All accessories are different, no two are the same. However there is one rule that all Terretell must follow, never use feathers as a accessory.
Feathers are used as a sign of bloodline and/or rank, and can only be obtained by inheriting it from their parents or given to them from a high ranking council member from either the capital or home clan. If a Terretell is found with feathers, and these feathers were not given from the options shown, the punishment can be imprisonment, being disowned and/or honor stripped by your home clan, or even death (if feathers were stolen from someone else).
Vocalization ;
Terretell have a wide variety of sounds they can make. If compared to a animal on earth, their sounds are more feline then anything else, but they have been known to make noises similar to red foxes and maned wolves. They can chirp, purr, chuff, hiss, growl, yelp, roar, and roar-bark. Some sounds such as their growl and hiss are very close to the sounds Servals make. No Terretell can ever howl like a wolf, and they don't meow or bark like dogs and cats.
Environment ;
Terretell live on a planet called Delta Velorum V, a planet much like Earth. Delta Velorum V is around 1/8 larger then earth in size, with two moons and a large asteroid belt orbiting it. Because of the multiple moons, weather is harsh on this world - rarely do Terretell live on a coastline because of several storms. Lightning storms are not uncommon, and is one of the top five causes of death during peace time.
Note: The V in Delta Velorum V is used as a roman numeral. It means 5.
