Page Twenty-Six:
[[You are in Ellie's (blue color) point of view.]]
My eyes narrow down on the girl as she collapses to the ground. my heart tightens painfully, then releases and thumps against my ribs. without hesitation, I launch myself at the girl, calling out over my shoulder "Somebody get help! She' shot! Get help!"
After only a short distance, which I realize there is much more of between myself and the girl than I had interpreted, my throat burns and my lungs scrape for air. A gnawing feeling pulls at my stomach, causing the split second thought and question of when the last time I had eaten. it shoots away when I see the blood pooling from the girls shoulder where she was struck by an arrow.
finally reaching her side, I kneel beside her and rest my hands on my legs, forcing myself to steady my breath. Neeeh, im so out of shape... I think, taking one last deep breath and beginning to tangle my arms around the girl to lift her. her blood splatters on my clothes, and my nose immediately picks up on the coppery scent. I inhale deeply, nearly gagging on the smell, and lift with my knees.
Surprisingly, the girls is very light, so light it requires so little of my strength to lift her. Ahh, she's so light... but there's so much blood... I think, my mind running a mile a minute. various emergency techniques flip through my memories, replaying sitting in a class and memorizing them incase this day comes. though we were never told about getting stabbed in the shoulder; as this was never to happen in the districts, naturally...
I slowly turn around, the girls head lagging and dangling on my shoulder, her whole body limp. when my gaze settles on the others, a scowl covers my face. they stand there with blank faces, staring at me with discontent. except Sam, he smiles and waves at me. what is this? a joke?
"You low-life ba*****s!" I scream in their directions, mentally smiling at how pale Sam grows and retracts his perky smile and wave. "Are you just NOT going to help~!?" I add. the girl in my arm's stirs, which startles me. slightly loosing my grip, between being startled and the amount of slippery blood, I have to scramble to keep hold. Is her chest rising and falling?
