The television crackles behind you, the image discolored and masked by static. A new anchor announces the disaster for the third time this house, but the report is drowned out by the hiss of the static. You wonder what he said for a moment before you remember that you’d listened to this before. All that was left now was to barricade your doors. You drag furniture in front of all the entrances to your home before grabbing your radio and running up to your bedroom. You turn it on.

“Hello, listeners,” says a friendly, calm voice, the Radio Announcer. The radio gets steadily louder as it powers on, until coming to a halt at seventy-six percent, where you set the dial. “As you know,” continued the Announcer coolly, “The local government has shut down, setting off a frightening chain of events that we’ve been experiencing since about a week ago…” Thunder crashes outside, which is odd because there were no clouds out when you last checked, and you were in the desert. Strange.
