Pacifica glanced at her opponent. The sleek green skin of the other rippled in the soft current. She set her mind on the race, eyes narrowed in determination. She blinked once and steadied herself. This course was harder than most; she was not sure if she would win. If she could win. She quickly dismissed the thought and waited for her que. Just as the thoughts passed through her mind the gun was shot and she rocketed forward. Bubbles streamed by her whiskers and flung back at her opponent. She had passed him so fast he'd been nothing but a green blur. Of course she'd win! Suddenly, a large looming wall of boulders rose ahead. Pacifica spotted a hole in it and tried to slip through. Her tail fin caught on a rock and held her back. The other Fishkat sped forward over the wall with a laugh. Pacifica, cursing silently, broke free. Her tail stung as she swam, trying desperately ti keep up and pass her opponent. No luck. She couldn't even see him. Pacifica saw the next obstacle, a huge forest of kelp. Just as her eyes settled on it, she saw the tip of a waving tail disappear into the weeds. She smiled. So there he was! She bolted into the kelp, wincing as the slimy stalks brushed her fins. Suddenly a small fish slipped by her belly, unbalancing her, and she turned upside down, cursing. Soon she was back on her way but she knew time was ticking and speed was evident. One more obstacle. The thought of it curled into her mind as she bursted from the kelp. Her body ached as she struggled onwards. Then, she saw it. The final obstacle. Rocks were falling through the water, from pebbles...to huge boulders. Pacifica winced and swam forward. She saw her opponent. He was dodging rocks carefully. Pacifica gasped as she saw a large one hit him on the head. He looked dazed and swam slowly. Pacifica took her chance and doomed through the rock shower, narrowing her eyes. Before she knew it, the hazy finish line rose ahead. With a burst kn adrenalin
