I normally don't like drawing from photos, but I saw this awesome picture of the Cure from '81 and I was like "Oh! Let's draw Simon!"
My enthusiasm wore off by the time I actually started the piece. I had forgotten how frustrating it is to draw from a photo. I understand that you have got to keep at that sort of thing, but it's just not really for me. I have great respect for those with the patience and eye for detail who can do photo/hyper realism. Incidentally, I gave up trying to make this look like the photo and went in my own direction with lighting, background, color,and style. I still like this drawing even though I didn't follow through with what exactly I had in mind. Hey, I never do.

This is gorgeous. You seriously have no idea. And I don't even listen to The Cure.

I personally prefer drawings/ paintings that aren't fully photo-realistic anyway. What's the point of drawing if you're just going to make it look like a photo? Just use a camera. Ha.
