Page Twenty:
"So why do we have to go through the woods anyway, why not just take the streets or a bus to the outskirts?" I ask Sam, swatting at the branches and gnats that swing and buzz in my face.
"Well you see, if we go through the city people will question who I am and why you aren't in school. but if we take the woods, then we wont have to face the crowds. there's also the aspect of..." Sam rants on, and I take note that today is Saturday and I don't have to be in school anyway; he probably lost track on which days are which due to living without the government's daily thought-messages.
While he blabs, I should think this through, what am I getting myself into? Hmm... wait- who..?
I look up to see a shady figure on a cloak weaving its way through a dense section of the woods, pausing behind a tree and catching my gaze. "Hey Sam, who-" I begin to point out the figure, but come face to face with a hard rough surface.
WAM!
Reeling back from the shock, I realized I had smashed into a tree from not paying attention. Sam slowly tilts his head back to me, but it looks like there are two - no three, four? - of him; and that many more concern in their expressions. He turns around and strides back in my direction, his hair gently brushing his shoulders.
"Ellie, are you okay?" he asks, worry furrowing his brow.
I let loose a bubbly giggle, "Just peachyyyyyy!" I swoon, drawing out the word. Then Sam's and his foggy twins blur into darkness.
