For the Last Time, this is Skipbeat!

Postby deideloo » Sat Jul 20, 2013 2:10 pm

I know yer probably gonna ask about dem hair highlights so I have a detailed step-by-step walkthrough explanation prepared for all you who want to make dem hair highlights yer pony's hair highlights.
As you all can see, it's your favourite *cough* not-so-favourite *cough* pony, Skipbeat! Man, this took long, but it was worth it. Tried a new layout for the chibipaint and used floating mode. Kept changing what I was drawing in the middle of the piece. Timer may be about 30-55 minutes off, I was trying to calm my dog down, my sister was threatening to give her a bath XD
Wow, this is going in my 'art I'm super proud of' category, I haven't been able to do something as cool as this in ages! In my opinion, it's probably my best/second best drawing yet.

@Lilly's first post: Haha I knew you'd prepare that compliment and I shall receive it gratefully. In other words, thanks, I'll tell you how, Lilly:
  1. Draw and colour your hair on your pony. Image
  2. Make a new layer and set it at around 25-30% opacity, then select the airbrush tool and start shading where the body should cast shadows on. You may need a mirror or references to see where shadows are cast on hair in a well-lit room.Image
  3. Begin highlighting where light would cast on the pony's hair, but don't begin the intense highlights. This will be on the same layer as the shadowing and also in airbrush, but in white airbrush. This may need a reference or mirror. Image
  4. Before beginning intense highlighting, blur the shading you currently have to make it less bold. Touch up the shadows a bit if the highlights are too strong. Image
  5. Initiate intense highlight sequence. Using white coloured airbrush on the shading layer, begin to draw a line like a rapid heartbeat line, consistently at the same height and always squiggly. Repeat on bangs and tail(if showing). Long tails may need more than one highlight line. Image
  6. This is the fun *cough* time-shredding *cough* part. with a size 1 black colour airbrush tool, go through the highlights you just made from beginning to end making vertical lines for the hair strands. This may take you 25 minutes or so if you're really committed to it. Image
And that's how!
@ the two posts after that: Aw, well, thanks, guys.. I couldn't have made it this far without all your support!
