A Man Named Gregory

Postby Siberian » Sat Jul 13, 2013 7:19 pm

I drew Gregory. For those of you who know about Greg from my comic, and actually care about him, I thought I would actually talk a little bit about him. He is an interesting character, and actually has a very unique difference about him from the other characters of mine.
And It's not just because he's old.
Well, okay, maybe that IS a bit of a big difference. If you look at all the other characters in COLORS, they are all young and teen like, where here you suddenly have this older grey character. Well, you see, when I first drew Greg, I didn't really know what I was doing. He just sort of randomly popped up, and I doodled him into the story. So when I was first creating COLORS, Gregory was never going to be a part of it. So really he wasn't supposed to be in it, and the story was just going to be about Razor, Orion, Yitzhak, Genna, Briana, Pix and Brian. After this I am glad that I decided to add him in, and he has been quite fun to play around with.
So before you could really see Gregory In the comic, I was still deciding on what part he was going to play in all this. I debated on whether he was going to be an old man or not, for example. It didn't take to long to figure it out, just grey was a good color for someone with a beard. So Gregory became the oldest of them all. I thought that a fluffy old grey man would be fun to draw. Also, I just find elder characters fun to roleplay with. If you ever catch me in a roleplay, I might be playing as an elder or just an older person. Not many people play as elders in Warrior RPs, so I do at times. The reason? I'm not really sure. I just get a kick out of playing old people/animals who are absolutely insane, and don't really have a good sense of mind, but can be wise and useful sometimes. Gregory doesn't exactly fit that description, where as he is more wise/smart and not so crazy. Although you never know, he might get there someday >u>
He does have a backstory as well. As in before he turned into the color Grey and all that. Actually, all the colors have a backstory. You just don't know about theirs yet. As for his, well, his is sort of half-finished, I guess. Because he is older, and therefore has had a longer lifespan, I haven't taken the time to think through his entire life and decide what he's been through. If you have read the comic up to date, (and hopefully if you are reading this you have, or this may not make much sense) you will remember that he talked about how the universe blew up, yadda yadda yadda. That stuff. When he is talking about it, he appears to know a lot, like specific things that they were throwing at the meteor, and saying things like "WE tried to stop it." So by that, what I'm saying is Gregory was actually out there in space trying to stop it. He was a soldier of outer space, he was in wars, he was a captain, you must follow his rules or you get beaten by the stick. That stuff. Now I don't want to say anything more about his life than that at the moment, because as I said, he is a work in progress.
As for his character development and actual role in the story, I wasn't quite sure what to do with him or have him do at first. For a while I actually pondered over him being a villain in the story, where he was falsely leading the colors for his own evil scheme to take over all the dimensions or something. I wasn't really sure, but I'm glad that he ended up being more of a wise cool chaperone to the colors. He is always pretty fun and interesting to draw, considering you never see his mouth. He always just has his mustache and beard, and I have to make his eyes give all his expression.
Gregory really is a fun color, and I can't wait to continue developing his character and pushing him into more of the action ^u^
