welcome to the home of syretus
like their ancestors, syreti are rarely seen by humans and when they happen to be spotted, they will flee instantly, unless a human happens to have distinct qualities that that particular syretus admires. in this case, it is like an imprint is formed, and a bond developed through friendship and trust is formed. maybe you will be lucky enough to have a companion syretus.
rules:
•a syretus may not be made as a fursona
•please do not ask to be an artist, guest artist, moderator, or any other staff position unless i am asking for one specifically; in this case, a form will be attached to this page for you to fill out
•do not hassle any staff members
•you may only try out for one syretus at a time
•unless you are a staff member, you may not make a custom syretus
•do not steal the idea, concept, or art of the syretus species
•do not steal a syretus that does not belong to you
•you may only own one syretus, as they only bond with one person
•do not mini mod, the moderators on this thread are here for that
•do not bribe syretus artists
•if you have a syretus you do not want to keep anymore, do not sell it out, give it away, etc. instead, pm the artist and it will be put back up for re-adoption
how to adopt:
-click on the image of the syretus you would like to adopt
-read through the artist's first post, it should include a form for you to fill out (the form can vary in context expected depending on the artist, so they won't all be the same)
-fill out the required information and wait until the artist has decided who the new owner is
notes for artists:
-try to stick to the same coloration of the syretus you design as same as the aquatic animal it shares traits with
-get creative c; ! i have two different linearts on this drawing: shark syretus and fish syretus. but i encourage you to draw your own kind. any type of syretus is acceptable, as long as it has the same traits as an aquatic animal. examples include dolphins, jellyfish, axolotls, seals, etc.

what is a syretus? wrote:pronounced "see-RAY-tus" (singular noun of the plural term: syretus), this aquatic species branches from the decent of ancient mermaids, specifically ones associated with the sirens of greek mythology. like ancient sirens and mermaids, syreti lure young sailors out at sea with their exquisite singing voices to crash their ships into dangerous rocks and ultimately to their deaths. one could say syreti are exactly the same as mermaids, but distinct qualities about them can set aside this assumption. after many years of evolution from ancient times, mermaids' traits slowly became more fish-like through generations of cross-breeding. this has also caused different branches of syreti to evolve, from sharks to whales to fish.
there are only female syreti known of so far, reproducing through parthenogenesis ( is a form of asexual reproduction in which growth and development of embryos occur without fertilization. in animals, parthenogenesis means development of an embryo from an unfertilized egg cell and is a component process of apomixis).
their coloration and markings are almost always natural in terms of the type of aquatic animal the syretus holds similar qualities to. for example, a killer whale or tiger shark syretus may have less variety of bright coloration rather than a parrotfish syretus. the syretus diet consists of smaller fish and occasionally sea plants. they live in deep sea caverns and trenches away from other aquatic and human civilizations, and travel alone, not in groups.
