The fawn bounded into the clearing after hearing his mother's call.
She had called for him in a panicked and terrified voice.
He looked around for her but only saw the calm swaying trees and the unruffled shrubs.
He called back to her but there was no reply.
Just the deafening silence of the forest pressing on his ears.
