Coal paused, preparing to groom himself, when suddenly a soft, weak paw prodded his tail and squashed it. He quickly snapped his head around, ears pricking in alarm. "Snowbank?"
His soft voice carried over the silence of the pine forest. "Snowbank, what's wrong?" he inquired, looking down at the strangely colored she-cat in concern.
"Coal... There's something I haven't told you. I.. I'm dying," she admitted in a frail, shaky voice.
"What?! No, sister, please don't leave me! I only discovered your existence 3 moons ago! How could you be dying?" Coal's voice broke. I need you.
Snowbank smiled. Her olive green eyes were shiny with sickness. "I'm sorry, brother. But greencough is merciless, and there is no catmint in this forest. But... Before I go, I must spill the darkest secrets our family has hidden." Her eyes closed, and she took a deep breath.
"Our mother is not our real mother, and our father is a traitor."
