What is a Sea Spark Salamander?
A sea spark salamander (aka SSS or simply a Salamander) is an aquatic animal that lives in the reefs of the Ambrisan Sea. They are a unique species with a long silky furred tail and slimy skin. They are normally brightly colored, but have developed a knack for blending in with their surroundings (despite their outstanding colors). Much like a chameleon, they can camouflage themselves against anything at all - however, each one has it's own special design.
______________________________________________
Guidelines
- Do not copy the species or any of the designs.
- Do not claim these as your own.
- Be respectful. (This includes limiting 'chat-speak' and being a good sport when you don't win a salamander.
- Do not try to bribe any artists into making a custom salamander for you.
- Do not ask for a custom. (Customs will never be open to the public. They are for staff members and friends only.)
- At this point in time, there is no limit on how many salamanders you may own. I may add a limit in the future.
- I may add to this at any given time (though I will probably announce any changes.)

Note to Staff
Artists- You must be committed to the SSS team. Please try to design one salamander per week. Notify me if you'll be absent for more than a week. If you do not make any salamanders for a full week, I you will be considered inactive and I will PM you. If you do not respond within the next week (and I see you've been online) you may be removed from the staff. I will notify you if this happens, and you can ask to remain part of the team, or politely explain that you'll no longer be able to design for us. Artists are allowed to create two custom salamanders for themselves, and they are also allowed to create customs for other staff members and friends. (They have to be close friends. Do not just hand out customs to the first person that calls you a friend. Consult with me about giving customs to friends before you actually make one for them.
Mods- Your job is to watch the thread and make sure no arguments break out and the spam is kept to a minimum. You should be able to answer questions quickly and accurately. If a question is asked and you are unsure of the answer, wait for another mod to reply or ask me. Mods are allowed to have one custom, created by an artist or by themselves. They may not make customs for other people, and they do not create adoptables (unless given specific permission from myself.)
Guest Artists- You are allowed to create one custom for yourself, and three adoptables in your one-week time frame as a guest artist. You may not create customs for other people.
Archivist/s- Your job is to maintain a separate thread that contains a list of all salamanders and their owners (if they have any). You are expected to update this list regularly. If for some reason you no longer have the time to manage the archive, inform me and I will open the position to someone else.

More about Sea Spark Salamanders
General Behavior - The salamanders are curious animals who won't hesitate to approach humans. They are generally very friendly and social, though they don't form any groups.
Habitat - The species lives in only one place on earth, in a small sea called Ambrisan. They live by the shore in the reefs among many other fish.
Predators and Prey - Not many can truly make a diet out of these, as the poisonous slime that coats their skin is a wonderful guard. The salamanders will eat tiny bugs and plants, but do not eat meat. They are herbivores.
Size - Salamanders can vary in size. They usually range within 2-5 feet long, with males being larger than females. Eggs are no larger than a marble, but young ones grow quickly and within a week of hatching, will have reached six inches to one foot long. From that point on, growth is a bit slower, but the spurt of growth almost immediately after birth allows them to escape any potential danger that might arise.
Mates - At the age of six months (when they reach maturity) salamanders will choose their mate. Very rarely does the father stick around to help care for his young. The mother, though, is very protective of her young. She will defend them with her life, and not many dare to confront her. Only when she is distracted is there a chance of her eggs being snatched away. She can have as many as three hundred at a time, but only around five - ten survive in the wild. They eggs hatch rather quickly. In a matter of a few days, they will have all hatched (usually at about the same time). The mother will remain with them for another few days after birth, but as soon as they are old enough to defend themselves, they will leave. The process will repeat every year.
In Captivity - Salamanders are often captured and put in zoos or even kept as pets. Their bright colors fascinate most humans and provide sufficient entertainment. In captivity, many mates will be life-long. They are usually taken in pairs (one male and one female) so they can produce offspring. Zoos are not allowed to own more than two of the beautifully colored animals, and will normally place young ones back in the wild once they are capable of fending for themselves. In captivity, though, salamanders have a long life span, and more of the young can survive. Instead of living for the normal 10-15 years, they can live for up to 25 when in captivity. Almost all of the young ones survive.
Golden Sparks - The salamanders' golden sparks is something to be marveled at. Not a lot is known about what they are for and why they are there, but many assume that it is for impressing a potential mate. When they are excited or moving quickly, they seem to glow brighter than ever. It has also been observed that when they feel threatened, their antennae will rise and they salamanders will puff out their tails to appear larger. Many have noticed that the salamanders leave a trail of gold dust behind them. The dust appears to fall out of their tail and the tips of their antennae, but the reason for this is unknown.
notes:
- varying sizes (average?)
- bright colors (dark and solid colors are rare)
- gold dust/sparks
- glow when moving quickly or when excited
- four 'legs'
- long silky fur tail
- forked tongue
- slimy, poisonous skin
- gills
- glowing antennae (what for?)
- fish-like heads
- pupil-less large eyes
