I thought I'd try something out...
Feather-tailed wolves.
description - They don't closely resemble the wolf, but they received their canine features from them.
They have long legs attached to a thin frame. Their bones are hollow and easy to break, so they typically avoid fights and are docile creatures. Their sizes can vary greatly - some are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, while others are the size of a large dog - in height at least.
They're light-weight and actually quite dainty. The largest one ever recorded was 93 cm at the shoulder (weighing only 75 lbs) and the smallest was 10 cm at the shoulder (.7 lbs). On average, though, they reach 35 cm at the shoulder, and weigh about 3 - 3.5 pounds.
The tuft of feathers on their tail is not apparent until they are about 2 months old. The feathers never stop growing as long as they live. The oldest known feather-tail was 9 years old. Larger ones typically live longer.
coloration - The design of a feather-tail normally contains natural colors, with a wide range of markings (both natural and unnatural). The few times they don't have markings, the animal is a solid natural color (brown, black, white, or grey) - or at least that is how they appear. They do have markings, though they are faint and hardly visible. These are incredibly rare and are called 'ghost-tails.'
