1. this is a patch of dappled fur in brown grey and orange. the technique is using the blend tool. you make your patches of color then, using a brush of about size 6-15, you blend each section together separately (not going over the whole length or width in one stroke) and all in the same direction. note that this technique does not work if you don't move the blend tool all in the same direction.
2. this is a patch of fur where two different directions of fur "hit" each other, for example chest fur. the technique is shading and blending. you first shade the part you want the fur to "hit" in. (probably not as dark as I did) then you blend both sides inward with a larger brush (around size 15, give or take a little), then with a smaller brush you can detail the small individual furs by "waving" your blender brush in the direction of the fur.
