Through a blazing storm of white,
Charging through with all his might,
Blizzard forged his way.

The scream of terror in the night,
The stress of mother, filled with fright,
A cougar's snarl far away.

All this the youngling heard,
His body soaring as a bird,
Now he saw the beast he must slay.

Through the shadows did he run,
A ray of light as from the sun,
The cougar now held at bay.

Rearing high in swirling snow,
The avenging son, his hooves fell low,
The beast's soul's now lost, astray.

Then son of fury turned to stare,
At mother dying, wounds laid bare,
Beside her loyally did he lay.

As the sun rose and showed the way,
To freedom, her soul flew away,
Blizzard's happiness had been slain,
His joy now would be kept at bay,
For now that he was left a stray,
Despairing in the snow he lay.

Rhyme: This is a kyrielle, a kind of formal poem. I admit actually wrote this one a year or so ago, but it is my own work, and I've changed and adapted it here and there to fit the character/backstory I have in mind for him.

The faint scent of lavender and hay
carried from the west on sweet summer air
calls to mind the mountainside on a July day
with him at my side. The wind lifted my hair
and his violet eyes shone in the fading light.
Just he and I- walking together on a day so fair
in late July, when summer was at its height.
I call to mind that day when I have nothing left.
Those days were dark, but Alden's eyes were bright.
