I was sulking around, without my trusty companion (my laptop), because I got a little mouthy at my parents,- when I decided to create some new species. I came up with the Bakka, it was actually a revamp of a species I cam up with in fifth grade, a cat+bat+wolf. Also known as a "Cabolf". Halfway through I decided to make it based off of the mysterious mythical creature of great fascination and terror alike, the Chupacabra.
However, this creature isn't quite as terrifying, although it's not without it's eerie attributes. I will start off with a list of what makes these creatures so unique-
○Bakka's have long, almost mane-like neck fur, going up instead of down, which makes them look fierce when confronted by a predator.
○They also have very long whiskers, which assist them in their nocturnal lifestyle.
○Bakka's have strange glowing 'sensor' areas that can detect a range of things, from dangerous airborne toxins to seismic activity. These are always matching each other except in the rarest cases, and can be any color. They also tend to be a color at least related to the eye color of the Bakka.
○A Bakka's eyes are highly unusual, with 6x the reflective quality of an average housecat. They also lack the ability to blink or close their eyes, since they lack eyelids. That makes it very easy to spot a Bakka at night, because their eyes glow like flashlights. Although most predators won't want to risk attacking a Bakka anyways, since they never know whether it's awake or not.
○Their tongues are "furry", meaning that they have long, bushy bristles coating their tongues. Imagine a cat's tongue in long-haired form, and completely covered. These are used to lap up the juice from the fruits they eat, as well as keep their dense fur clean.
○A Bakka's lower jaw is very strange as well, this might be some of the cause of the "blood-sucking chuppacabra" myth. Their lower jaw completely lacks teeth except for the two canines, which are twice as large and long as the top ones. These are not used to pierce an animal's flesh, instead, they come in handy with getting through the thick and hard skin of some jungle fruits.
○Bakka's have bat wing-like membranes connecting their legs and tails, Bakkas were once thought to be descendants of fruit bats, but studies show that they come from the fox family. They have no use for this membrane other than to shelter young or to cool off, by losing some of the warmth from the thin membrane.
○Bakka's have a chilling call that reminds people of car brakes screeching.
Scientific Name: Vulpes Pipistrellus
Diet: Fruits, and occasionally nuts and seeds
Size: Roughly the size of an average coyote
Location: South American Forests
"This species has recently been recovering from being hunted to the brink of extinction, because of being accused of being chuppacabras, (blood-sucking mythical creatures), their extra-long lower canines, glowing stare, and eerie call have made them a very creepy and despised animal. They are making a comeback however, being sheltered in our special park made especially for them. They seem really gentle and friendly, although they can be a little energetic. They seem to make great pets, and we can only have so many..."
