Name:
Aiyana
A Native American name meaning "eternal blossom".
Tribe origin is unknown.
Gender:
Female
Element:
Life
There is a catch to this! Life can be a very powerful element, so I chose to limit it so she wouldn't be all powerful. When she chooses to give life to something, it drains her own life force. The larger the creature or plant she heals, the weaker it makes her and the longer it takes to recover. The largest thing she'd ever saved was a month old foal that had pneumonia, and that itself nearly killed her.
Personality:
Aiyana is kind and caring, but easily upset. She tries to include anyone or anything that is alone or sad, but she often finds herself left out of the herd. Aiyana constantly seeks ways to attain approval, though she never gets it, and her greatest wish is to find a companion that she can be herself around without having to worry about the rejection she's felt all her life.
Story:
No. This couldn't be happening.
"Where's your mommy?" "Did she leave you, freak?" "No one wants you!" "Your element doesn't even want to be near you!" Aiyana could hear their taunts, but they weren't what was hurting her spirit.
Her beloved tiger lily lay broken at her hooves, the tiny filly slowly collapsing to the ground. She stared at the dying plant in shock; why were they so cruel to her? Was this only because she had been rejected by her parents?
Eventually she heard the other foals leave, feeling the dirt being kicked onto her back. She didn't care. The only light she had, the only hope she had held onto was now gone, dying before her very eyes. Aiyana could feel tears begin to swell; she had cried many, many times before, but this was different. This was not merely sorrow. At this moment, she was giving up on life.
Life.
Despite her sorrow, Aiyana couldn't deny that something strange was happening. Slowly she opened her vibrant chocolate eyes, and what she saw stunned her. The tears she had cried were changing the area where they landed; new grass was growing. She stared in awe at the phenomenon before she had an idea. Extending her dainty neck, she allowed tears to fall on the broken tiger lily.
At first, there was no reaction, and Aiyana felt depression creeping back up again. But when she wasn't looking, the bent segments of the stalk began to rebuid and straighten, the trampled leaves and crushed flowers became new again. She didn't notice the change immediately, though; it was the rapid beating of a hummingbird's wings that drew her attention to the plant. As she watched the tiny form drink from her flower, Aiyana's heart soared. Life. That was her element. Leaping up, she circled the tiger lily in leaps and bounds, whinnying and dancing in happiness.
After expressing her happiness, Aiyana turned to look out at the other foals playing near to their mothers. She didn't belong here, and she never would. Gently using her teeth to pick the largest of the blossoms. She pondered how she could carry it, but her answer came from the tiny bird that had carried hope back into her life. The hummingbird took the flower from her gently, then entwined it into her short, fuzzy mane. She gave an appreciative nicker as it flew away again.
As Aiyana left her secluded little cave, she turned towards the woods and stared into the shadows. She could do this. She'd be brave. Taking a deep breath, Aiyana took a step into the forest, then another, then another. With each step she felt a little more of the pain in her cest go away, and soon she moved into a floating trot, then into a canter. She was free, finally free. She was old enough to survive on her own, as long as she was careful. Aiyana could live without the constant pain. Now her life truly began.
