▪ Whelkon Name: Tane
▪ Name Meaning: Tane means "man" in Maori. In Maori and Polynesian legend Tane was the god of the forest and light.
▪ History: Tane's history is shrouded in mystery. He awoke on a foggy morning under a willow tree with no recollection of who he was or where he came from. He was severely ill which could have been the cause of his amnesia. A kind elderly whelkon took him in as he recovered from his strange ailment. As he recovered and became stronger, he discovered that he could perform amazing feats. Once when the elderly whelkon became deathly ill he cured her as she was taking her last breath. Another time when a section of the forest became scorched from fire he revived it simply by willing it to live. There is a legend of an ancient, great hero that once saved the land from terrible misfortune. This hero cured the sick, revived the dying wilderness and brought peace to the land. It is said that in times of great misfortune this hero will reappear to aid the Whelkons. Could Tane be the reincarnation of this great hero? Tane gets flashbacks from his past in dreams and is striving to remember who he was as he fights against the sudden plague that is harming the forest and the Whelkons that reside there.
