It was dark. Artemis sat deep in the forest, alone. She could no longer ignore the screaming pangs of hunger deep in her stomach. She looked up. The moon was an odd, red-ish color with a tinge of silver. Thin, light cloud stretched across the star-covered sky, covering parts of the moon. The ground was shrouded in a thick, dark fog. Artemis stood, flexing her muscles. She wasn't that old and had only been hunting one other time. She sniffed the air, catching the scent of a lion. It burned her nostrils and urged her foward. She kept low to the ground, following the putrid stench of lion. The lion finally came into view. It was a large, solid black color with eyes that seemed to glow. It turned around, spotting Artemis. Artemis sprang foward, lashing out at the lion's body with her hard hooves. The lion jumped up, landing on her back. Artemis' spikes stabbed into the lion's belly and chest. Artemis let out a yelp of pain as she hit the ground, tumbling a few feet with the lion. The lion pulled itself from Artemis' spines with a sickening suction sound. Artemis struggled to her feet, sinking her fangs into the lion's neck. The lion jerked back, trying to escape. Artemis dug her fangs deeper into the lion's throat. It struggled a moment before falling to the ground, limp and lifeless. Artemis collapsed too, resting a moment before sinking her teeth into the fresh meat of the solid black lion.
