I watched in horror, barely able to move out of terror, as burning timber crashed to the ground around me. I felt sparks searing my flesh and singing my hair. I was surrounded by a horrid flaming wall and knew I was done for. Suddenly a dark form flew into the clearing. It was a black panther-like creature with glowing white spots. Seizing me with his jaws, he roughly drew me out of the burning brush. I immediately threw my arms around his thick furry neck and wept gratefully. In return he rested his chin on my head.

One night I was walking
Under light of bright full moon.
And suddenly I saw him,

His eyes were glowing like lamplight,

The white patches on his sides
Stood out the most by far.
His lip curled up in a snarl,
But I stood and didn't run.
Nor did I yell or shout or scream
Or flee to find a gun.
I stared him back in his headlight eyes
And I knew that that moment, on a whim.
I could never hurt such a creature;
I saw myself in him.

Why did you choose this name: Well, I know this is stupid, but the white scales and black fur remind me of the Phantom of the Opera. (which I am obsessed with at the moment) Erik is the Phantom's real name.

How you came across this Underwater Panther: I was watching a meteor shower at the shore of lake Michigan with my two sisters. The falling stars were especially bright at the lake because it was away from the lights of the city. Anyway, I was sitting on a blanket spread out in the sand when I heard a loud splash. It made me jump, but I ignored it, thinking it was probably just a sea lion. I was wrong, of course. I looked up when a movement caught my eye to see a huge shape at the edge of the water. It was far too big to be a sea lion, it was about the size of a draft horse! I jumped up, drawing strange glances from my sisters. The creature was walking way too smoothly to be a horse, though it seemed to be limping or something. I grabbed a flashlight and flipped the switch, turning the narrow beam of light on the creature. It turned to face me, it's pupil shrinking to slits in the light. I gasped, taking in the fact that I was looking at a huge cat! It wasn't putting any weight on its left forepaw, and, turning the light towards it, I saw what looked like a wound from a boat propeller. My sisters had joined me by then, and they were warning me to stay back. I shook my head and walk towards the creature slowly, my hand outstretched. At first, the black feline hissed angrily and swiped at me with one of it's saucer-sized paws, making me jump. I kept walking towards it until I could've easily pat its head. It stared into my eyes. I felt like his piercing green gaze could see right into my soul. Suddenly, the creature started to purr lowly, putting his head into my hand. After that, my sisters helped me fix up his leg (not without a large amount of grumbling and jumping), and we took him home. I named him Eric because he seemed so majestic and prideful, like a king. We've been together ever since.
That was really long. O.o Sorry! I just got into it. XD
