Felerus
Enter the Felerus custom contest now this will be the only chance to get a custom of this species!
The name comes from a combination of the word Cerberus and Feline, because the species is more or less the combination of a canine and a feline.
Species Specifics: Can live in a very large range any where from mountains to desert don’t live in Tropical rainforest, tundra or beach. Have long fur in mountainous areas. But short fur is much more common and is found in all other parts of the globe.
They have a wide range of vocalizations, any where from yips to yowls can’t really bark, they can growl, but cannot roar.
They have colored markings that can change color to send signals to other members of the packs. Markings can be on face, shoulders and sides where ribs sit. They use these markings to send messages such as danger, when they spot prey or they are interested in something. Markings are different on all members of the species but some markings can be passed down through generations so a daughter may have a mix of their parents markings and a few of there own the color of the marking may also be a mix of the parents colors.
Marking color: When they aren’t being used they are dull and do not glow when the markings aren't glowing they are always the same color. When the Felerus spot danger or a threat to their territory their markings turn red. When they are looking for a mate their markings will be a light blue. When they spot prey the markings turn orange. Markings appear when pups are about a week old, they glow white for a few minutes and then turn whatever color they naturally are and stop glowing, the pups don’t have control over the markings like the adults do so they will randomly glow different colors.
Fur, eye and nose/paw pad color: There fur can be a mix of markings and colors found naturally on any can or dog, that includes domestics of both species and wild animals of the species like African wild dogs, tigers and coyotes. They can be but are very, very rarely all black, white or brown they almost always have a few markings even if it’s like a black leopard, it has markings they are just almost the same color as the base coat, still visible, just not as easily. The markings and color don’t have to match you could, for instance, have a Felerus with tiger stripes the color of a black and white dog like a Dalmatian. Their nose and paw pads are always the same color and can be shades of brown, pink and black/grey. Their eyes can be brown, yellow, green and blue. They can also have two different colored eyes, they colors are more likely to be different when there are markings over the eyes like a white spot over one eye and the base fur is black over the other eye.
They get about the same size as a leopard, males tend to be a bit bigger than females. They have retractable claws and no collar bone. They live about 25 years on average but can live to a little over 30 in rare cases. They only have one or two pups at a time and the whole pack helps raise the pups. The packs tend to be pretty small not growing past about 10 members each. When pups reach maturity they leave there pack to start a new one this helps to limit inbreeding.
They live on a planet called Khepoth and you can get more information about that here viewtopic.php?f=33&t=1426591
