Cat Head

Postby Cate » Thu Aug 09, 2012 7:09 pm

Facing forward.

Step 1

Start with a circle [the big one] then place a cross in it that splits them into quarters. At the bottom of the circle make a smaller oval for the muzzle so that the vertical line splits it. Place a triangle for the ears in the two upper quaters that end on the horizantal. Leave room up there for head between ears.

Step Two [blue]

I star at the chin and follow the oval until it curve toward the nose which is where I turn the blue line to the cheek tuff area. Round out the ears, like the tips, and add a line like a c in the right ear and a backward c in the left with tuffs at the bottom created by a series of wave like strokes or squiggles. Make the cheek tuffs starting at the bottom of the ear with a similar fashion and contect to your chin lines. Tuff of fur on his forehead is just something fun and can be played with until you find a style that you like. Add the eyes on the horizantal line. The nose is at the top of the oval and the mouth is in the centern or just below center of the oval [varies on expression as well]. Neck is two straigh lines on the sides of your circle [if there was a dotted line from bottom of ears the lines would be place close to there] The lines can be curved slightly like mine and have fur at the end.

Step three [green]

Add whiskers and any markings.

Profile

Step 1:

Start with your trusty circle! In the middle of your circle draw a line from the right or left [depending one which way he is facing] to the center. Below that is the muzzle which is like a rectangle with rounded edges. The ears in this case look more like cylanders than triangles, think upsidown ice cream cones. The one on the farther side will be smaller. The neck Will start of the ears in the back at a slight angle and the throat will start just behind where the chin and cheek meet.

Step 2:

Okay so we round out the ears again abd make a tighter c because it is seen from the side. Like before the forehead tuffs or bangs is something that can be played with, just try freehanding a continueous loose series of triangles. Otherwise you basicly follow the outling you have and add fur at the cheeks and throat [optional]. Also add eyes nose and mouth. Eyes are on the line again, nose at the top of the rec and mouth just below.

Step 3 [not shown]

Add whiskers [dont forget the far side, youll see the tips]
Add patterns.

Eyes

These are just a few simple eyes.

One is a humanistic cartoon eye. It had an arc for the upper lid and a line for the bottom. The circle between the lines is usuaaly partcally connected to the upper lid as shown [it shows in profile and front view] Profile upper lid is straighter and lower lid turns up at the end. The eye is narrower and at the front of the eye.

Two is a simplified cat eye. Start with an arc and then draw the circle for the eye. Once in place draw the lower lid connectint it to both ends of the line. Extend the end closest to the nose to create a tear duct. Profile is similar in steps to the first eye but the lower lid comes up further and the tear duct is extends a little.

Three is the easiest. It consists on a curve for the upper lip and a circle for the eye. In profile the curve will be shorted and the circle narrower and closer to the side that the cat is facing.

Tuffs

So here are two examples of how to make fur tuffs.

One is more simplified and is just creating a large zig-zag line like triangles.

Two is similar but smaller with more lines to show the fur.

Noses

Two examples in front and profile

One is the simpliest which looks like an unfinished triangle. In the profile you just draw the top and side.

The second is more realistic where the top is like a rectangle and the bottom an upsideown triangle with a flat tip. Notice the break in the rectangle, that break creates the nostrils. In the profile you basically just draw on half of it.

Well I hope that helps! Sorry for the bad handwriting.
