Itrag's Name: Zion
Name inspiration: Zion, it is also translated into Sion, Tzion, or Tsion, is a place name often used as a synonym for Jerusalem. The word is first found in Samuel II, 5:7 dating to c.630-540 BCE according to modern scholarship. It commonly referred to a specific mountain near Jerusalem, A.K.A. Mount Zion, on which stood a Jebusite fortress of the same name that was conquered by David and was named the City of David. The term Tzion came to designate the area of Jerusalem where the fortress stood, and later became a metonym for Solomon's Temple in Jerusalem, the city of Jerusalem and generally, the World to Come.
Later on, the Jewish were longing for Zion, so started with the deportation and enslavement of Jews during the Babylonian captivity, which was adopted as a metaphor by Christian Black slaves in the United States, and after the Civil War by blacks who were still oppressed. So, Zion symbolizes a longing by wandering peoples for a safe homeland. This could be an actual place such as Ethiopia for Rastafarians or Israel for some of the Igbos in Nigeria for example. For others, it has taken on a more spiritual meaning—a safe spiritual homeland, like in heaven, or a kind of peace of mind in one's present life.
Today, Mount Zion refers to a hill south of the Old City's Armenian Quarter, not to the Temple Mount. This apparent misidentification dates from the Middle Ages, when Christian pilgrims mistook the relatively large, flat summit, which was the highest point in ancient Jerusalem, for the original site of the Jewish Temple. The Dormition Church is located upon the hill currently called Mount Zion.
With that said, the name Zion seems to fit this mare/stallion. It was used for antislavery, and ever time I look at this gorgerous Itrag, I see a rebel, and an Itrag that cares. One that stands up for anyone, and fights tooth n' nail to get what's right. I also see an Itrag who wants to keep others safe, and will be a safehouse for those in need of it. When I hear Mount Zion, it makes me believe that the name 'Zion' means the nameholder is a strong, courageous leader, and will be a mountain.
What do you think of when you hear the word 'Mountain'? I know it makes me think of something that is strong, and will never fall. Something that blocks something from getting to the other side. With the name Zion, and Mountain, it kinda explains this Itrag's personality. Strong, and will never back down from the toughest of challenges, also it can keep others safe from evil. Being the light, and the brick wall the blocks out all danger.
