Okay, this is how I draw my lightsabers, Feather. Do NOT look at the handles, I draw them differently but you didn't need any help with those. And I was too lazy.
And this is all on one layer, don't worry.
1. Draw a white line using the straight edge tool with the pencil tool. Make it about size 9-13, maximum opacity. Draw the hilt next, and you MUST draw it in this step, otherwise you won't get a realistic glow effect on it.
2. Next, use the straight line airbrush tool at about size 50, opacity at around 32, and draw right over top of the white line. Don't forget to start right where the bottom of the saber meets the handle, so the glow will look right!
3. Use the straight airbrush at about size 21, opacity around 86, and draw over the white line again. Also, make sure to get the top of the hilt. This increases the intensity of the glow.
4. This is by far the hardest step. Using the straight airbrush at size 6-8, near maximum opacity (245-250) draw a line STRAIGHT DOWN the CENTER. If you don't get it in the center, it won't look right. You will have to use 'ctrl + Z' a lot. (The redo button. :3)
I hope this helps you, enjoy!
